Went to my family doc. today and mentioned that I was going to find a doc. who was open to prescribing a natural thyroid med. instead of a synthetic one and she stated that Armour was very hard to regulate.
She said that the TSh on Armour is up and down like crazy and is extremely hard to ajust the med.
SHe recommeneded that I stay on Synthroid.
I was wondering what everyone elses make is on this?

yes armour CAN be hard to regulate in the sense that your t4 can go high but your t3 can go low or the opposite and then its hard to only add armour bc it contains both.
what many people do is armour...and then do blood tests and see where all their levels are..and then add a synthetic if the t4 needs to be higher or add some cytomel if t3 needs to be higher.
i would go to www.thyroid.about.com for more info on armour oxoxo
i love my armour and its the only thing i need now to keep all my levles in mid range or above xo jenn

When it comes to our thyroids, we have to be insanely proactive about our care.......

As a nurse practitoner, I had researched it, but acutally had to switch to an MD that was willing to give it a chance.
Good luck to all!
I haven't posted in a long, long time..it's nice to be back!

PS I would be happy to recommend my doctor to anyone in northern NJ who is looking for a practitioner with a clear understanding of PCOS and how to treat! |

What is it that you are feeling is different on Armour, and why is synthroid not that great.
What about wanting to get pregnant? Would it make a difference if I were on Armour? Would it help me to get pregnant, or is it the same as synthroid in that regard?
Could I continue to take it while pregnant and nursing?
Thanks,
Jyotsna |

Usually during pregnancy it might be recommened to increase the dose of Synthroid on the body, as the body will be going through a bigger demand. I know Synthroid is very safe to to take during preganacy. Also recommened to get levels checked thoughout pregnancy to make sure you and your little one are healthy. |

My Mood: Points: 1,946.98 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,946.98 | I take armour and I have for about 4 years. I used to be on syntroid for many years. I went to a new endo because I wasnt feeling well and my old one wasnt particularly helpful, and my new doc put me on the armour. Armour has t3 and t4, synthroid is only t4.
I felt so much better since being on the armour!
It is safe to take during pg and BFing, I did with my 2nd, I was on sythroid for my first. I did have to go up on my dose while pg.
I have had no problem with my levels since being on it.
