Talking Fantastic RE in Houston

If you're looking for an RE in the Houston area, I've got you covered!

My RE is the by far the best doctor I've ever seen.
He is wonderful and caring and his staff is great too. You know how most docs are reading your file while you're sitting in front of them? Like they know nothing about you and have to look in there to remember a single thing...don't know about you but that's annoying to me, at least look at the file before you come in to see me.

Well, I don't know how he does it but Dr.Dunn knows about you and has a plan before he walks in to greet you. It's very comforting He remembers his patients too and because he and his wife had fertility problems, he can truly relate.
I was trying for almost two years with my Ob/Gyn and my first RE with absolutely no luck, it took no time at all once I had the right doctor!

He is very knowledgable on PCOS and IF and if you can't tell, I just can't say enough good things about him! There are two female docs in his office too if you prefer, they are Dr. Leah Schenk and Dr. Cecelia Valdes.

Dr. Randall Dunn
7550 Fannin
Houston, TX 77054
713-512-7500 appointments
713-512-7000 general info
713-512-7826 Dr.Dunn's nurses

www.obgynassociates.com

Dr.Dunn was my second RE, the first one was also part of Ob/Gyn Associates (OGA) but I would NOT recommend him at all. I don't want ot post his name here but if you're in doubt, PM me.

I LOVE DR. DUNN!!

Thanks to guidance from another soul cyster, I changed my RE from one at Baylor to Dr. Dunn. My first RE at Baylor was not very knowledgable about PCOS. She diagnosed me, but didn't do anything to treat me! She tried one round of injections and IUI (unsuccessful), then on the second round, she over-medicated me and I hyper-stimmed. All she kept talking about was IVF. I knew she was just looking for more money from me, so I left. She had a terrible bedside manner too. If you need to know who she is, PM me.

Anyway... a friend of mine directed me to this web sight and Dr. Dunn. He is an angel. His nurses are angels too. I never, ever felt like a number in the office. He sees a lot of patients, and like Michelle said, he KNEW who I was. I had two m/c while under his care, and he was so, so, so kind and supportive. He had such hopes for us, and wanted to do anything he could to help me get and stay pg. With one of my m/c, I had to have a D&C. Dr. Dunn performed it, and I can't say enough about how good my care was during such a heart-wrenching procedure. I had four IUIs while under his treatment (got pg three times (2 m/c)), and he continued to tinker with my meds until we got the right protocol down. I loved that he really took the time to find out what worked best for me (how much gonal f, etc.) instead of just moving on to IVF. Once I did get and stay pg, he took the time to talk to me on the phone one day when I had several questions about Met.

I hope I don't have to go back to an RE to conceive #2, but if I do, I will be RUNNING back to Dr. Dunn's office!!! I have also heard wonderful, wonderful things about the other REs who share his office (Schenk and Valdes).

Marty

Just to add, when I lived in Houston I saw Dr Schenk who, as mhudson mentioned, is in the same office. She was fabulous.

I originally was trying to see Dr Dunn based on a friends recommendation, but I had trouble getting in as quickly as I wanted, and Dr Schenk had an opening.

It worked out fabulously for me!

I know I've already posted a great big AGREEMENT with Dr. Dunn on another thread, but Dr. Dunn really is amazing. I have no idea how I was blessed to get his name and number, but I am so thankful that I did! My OB had NO ideas. She ran an HSG and that came back clean, so she sent me to him right away.
He even gave us hugs when we had our last visit with him!
I'm getting teary -- I MISS HIM! LOL!

I'll tell you how I found him. I was seeing another RE at OGA (but upstairs in the main building, not in Dr.Dunn's office) and absolutely hated him. He had not diagnosed my PCOS even after I basically handed him all the info and he told us that he couldn't help us unless we did IVF. WTH!? He hadn't even determined the problem! His office also never returned phonecalls and acted like I was annoying them when I called.

Anyway, I was on another bulletin board over on babycenter I think it was and stumbled upon a woman from Houston who just raved about her RE, Dr.Dunn. Luckiest thing that ever happened to me

Andrea~ make sure you go see him after the babies are here and Marty, if you haven't already, you should! He loves to see the final products of all his work

I took Cara to see him when she was about 8 weeks old and he actually took the time to come out and talk with us for like 5-10 minutes. He held her (which he's a natural at) and we took some pictures of him with Cara. We have one framed on our wall and it will stay there forever!

I could go on forever but lucky for you, I won't...

Dr. Dunn holding Julia at 6 weeks (she is not wearing pants b/c she had just had a big poo at my Ob's office). My timing was perfect... right after his last appointment (so I didn't have to parade Julia in front of patients). He came out and talked with me for several minutes.
Andrea- I miss him too! I wished he could have seen me through the whole pregnancy.
Michelle- I have Shoot the Moon Lindy to thank for directing me to Dr. Dunn! As you know, she now also has twins due to his help.

Marty~ Yes, Shoot the Moon Lindy and I were seeing him at the same time (her pregnancy with her son) and we actually met up there one day after my beta.
You know I've lost track of how many of my friends/aquaintances have seen Dr.Dunn and have babies to show for it...I think it's like 11 babies and 8 moms, you do the math there's one set of triplets and one set of twins.
I have sent many people to see him and nobody has been unhappy with their experience. So far nobody has come out of it without a baby either

Love the picture with Julia. I don't have ours on te compuer, it was taken with my regular camera, maybe I'll get it scanned so I can post it. We could start a Dr.Dunn's Babies thread...LOL.

Jenn~Glad you found this post If your insurance covers Dr.Dunn, definitely go see him, he's wonderful! Keep in mind that it can take 2-4 months to get in to see him though.

It's worth the wait but i just wanted to let you know...also it's just the first "New Patient" appointment that can take awhile to get in, after that it's like any other docs office

If you're impatient (like me) you can try calling on a regular basis to fill a cancellation spot, if any come up before your scheduled appointment.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes!!!

Would you recommend Dr. Dunn ONLY if I'm trying to get pregnant? I'm not exactly ttc...but don't want to be on bcp either.. My main goal right now is getting healthy and getting PCOS under control. If I do get pregnant..great! That would be awesome, but that's not my main focus right now...however definitely in the near future... maybe end of this year or next year.

Well, if you said you had no interest in becoming PG, I'd say it would be easier to go see a regular Endocrinologist than to see an RE (Dr.Dunn)...

However, since it seems your main focus of getting healthy is leading up to TTC, I'd probably go ahead and see him.
For one thing, I'm sure you've seen many signatures around here where it took quite awhile to get PG after starting to try. Well, some of that time is spent running various tests, taking Provera to start AF, etc. So if you start seeing an RE soon and explain your goal, you can start with the initial testing now nad get that out of the way so that when you are ready to officially start trying, that stuff is done.

Also, if he decides to put you on Glucophage (very likely for your overall health but it's also one of the first steps in attempting to regulate AF) you could find that your AF becomes regular and you won't need further intervention.
They will also likely put you on a prenatal vitamin (possibly extra folic acid) since you do want to try within a year or so and aren't preventing.

Hope I answered your question Feel free to PM me here if you'd like to chat more or more info on Dr.Dunn, TTC, etc.

I can NOT thank you ladies enough for the recommendation to Dr. Dunn!!!! My first appointment with him was yesterday. I felt so at ease and comfortable in his office, and he took the time to explain everything, and gave me LOADS of information to take with me! I am very confident in him, and I have tons of blood work and other tests to do. He sounds very thorough, he's a great guy!!
