Question fasting blood glucose

Hey all!

Just had more tests.....

My fasting blood glucose was 117. When I last had the test in January it was 109. At that time I talked with my doc about Met and he thought it best to hold off on any meds until I'm actually diabetic.

Well, I'm seemingly well on my way...

I'm just frustrated because I have been (loosely) watching my diet and exercising and yet my glucose levels were higher now than before.

Questions:

Should I speak with the doc again about Met when I see him in 2 weeks?

Can Met help to prevent full-blown diabetes?

Or, should I just continue to try and control things with stricter diet and exercise?

Any input is appreciated...

Thanks

I'm sorry Bekah. It's always frustrating to have the changes you make go seemingly un-noticed by your lab results!

Studies show that lifestyle changes are more effective than met alone (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/q...&dopt=Abstract). So a combination of both would probably be most effective.

Anytime labs come back less improved it warrants a talk with your Dr. How long have you been on Met? What is your current dosage?

My fasting glucose has been about the same as yours and I, too, am frustrated as my dr says I am high-normal, low-abnormal in my readings. I'll tell you, though, I *know* what my fasting glucose should be as I've had it taken before when my PCOS/insulin Resistance isn't acting up and it's in the mid 80's. I don't think waiting until you get full-blown diabetes in order to take Met is the right choice as insulin resistance is completely reversable with meds, diet, and exercise while diabetes is not and is also life threatening. So, imo, I believe you should talk to your dr again and/or get a second opinion on this. Good luck!
