What are the normal values? Mine came back at 129, and the doctors have been telling me I don't have a problem. I have read it is supposed to be under 100, but then I read that between 100-130 is fine. Does anyone know? My doctor says he won't put me on Metformin b/c I am skinny so I must not be insulin resistant . Whatever! Anyway, I am going to talk to him about it on Monday so I need some help. Sorry to ramble, thanks ladies

I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic and have been taking in all I can on the net. I joined this forum, and they seem to be right on the money, so the reply in the thread below is probably what you are looking for.
Until I switched doctors, I was getting those high "normal" readings too. Now that I've switched to a doctor that listens to me and has diagnosed 2 problems from the first day I met her, I am on the right track to getting healthy again. Eventhough your reading according to your doctor is in the normal range, it's in the high normal range which indicates pre-diabetes. If your doctor doesn't help you now, you will probably become a diabetic in the future. You have a chance now to reverse this. My doctor even prescribed me a glucose meter that first day, along with the metformin. She was 99% sure of the diagnosis of pre-diabetes and PCOS so she went ahead and got me started. She was right on the money, and I am slowly but surely getting back to better health. If you are not 100% behind your doctor, I would suggest you find a new one that is more supportive and open minded. I stuck with my old doctor for years giving her the benefit of the doubt, and looking back, I could have been much happier all those years instead of suffering. Finding the right doctor is so important. One that treats you like a partner in your health, and doesn't make you feel like you need to be told everything because your input doesn't matter. There are plenty of skinny diabetics out there. I think that kind of response is not in your best interest.

My fasting Blood Sugar after 12 hours was 101 my copy of labs says it should be 70-99. Dr. says I am insulin resistant. Now 129 & under is supposed to be normal after 3 hour glucose tolerance test. Cause when I was pregnant I was just a point or 2 over & then they said I was gestastional. But I controlled it through diet ( which would be ny choice when you are not having sugars in 200 & 300 range me is too much. It will lower you to the point where you will be too little sugar & that's very bad! That's probably why no met Oh... and I would just take this as a warning 7 start balancing your meals & cutting out sugar except natural sugars. Cinnamon, Alpha lipoic Acid, Garlic & unfiltered apple cider vinager help control sugar levels so you stay even through out the day no big dips or high's.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) criteria for diagnosing diabetes are met when any of the following results have been repeated on at least two different days:
A fasting blood glucose level is 126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L) or higher.
A 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test result is 200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) or higher. For more information, see the medical test Oral Glucose Tolerance Test.
Symptoms of diabetes are present and a random blood glucose test is 200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) or higher.
If your fasting blood glucose level is between 100 mg/dL (6.1 mmol/L) and 126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L), you are considered to have prediabetes (impaired fasting glucose) and you have an increased risk for developing diabetes.
Thanks for the info ladies. I will be sharing it w/ my doctor. My sheet lists up to 130 as normal fasting glucose on the results! I wonder how many other people think they are normal....

Thanks KMJ for posting that. Our lab here is on the conservative side, and I wasn't quite sure about ADA guidelines, but I knew that it was a little high.
