Blood sugar levels are usually given in U.S. units of "mg/dl"; the European units are "mmol/L". It could be your results were given using the latter units. A reading of 4.2 would translate to 75.
It could also be that you were actually looking at an HBA1c test (which shows an average blood sugar over the past 2-3 months). An HBA1c of 4.2 translates to a blood glucose reading of 72.
