Question fasting glucose levels

I am not diabetic. I am IR. On my first fasting glucose test it was 41. I am on 1500mg Met. It has lowered my level to 31. I was told 25 was normal range. Can anyone tell me what these numbers mean and if I am correct about the normal range. My Dr. told me I was close to being diabetic. I thought either you are or you are not diabetic. Help?

I can't help you because your doctor must be using a funky way to count your levels that I am unaware of. The scale that my doctor uses has a Well controlled fasting level of 70 - 90. If I were at 31 or 25, I'd be awfully sick with low blood sugar, so your doc must be using a different number than I am familiar with.

I just thought I'd bump this up to see if someone else knew the answer.

Good luck!

My Doc's normal scale is 65-115, above that he cals diabetic. Mine is 101 to 105. Does this mean I will eventually get diabetes?

Becky,

Nope! You are within a normal range! It doesn't mean that you will never get diabetes, but it doesn't mean that you will either. Since you don't have it now, I'd look into ways to help ensure that you don't get it. Eating right (doesn't mean cutting out all sugar though! I'm a diabetic and I still have dessert sometimes!) and moderate exercise can go a LONG LONG way to preventing it. I'd recommend that you check out the ADA's website (www.diabetes.org). They have a whole section of Diabetes prevention!
