Default Fasting Glucose and Metaformin?

My fasting glucose is 78 and my doctor is worried that if she puts me on Metaformin that it will drop my glucose levels and I will crash and be hypoglycemic. What is everyones fasting glucose and meds and mg's they are on? I want to make some suggestions to my doc. Thanks!

My fasting glucose was lower than yours. I take 2000mg of metformin. Sometimes, for me, I need to eat more protein than carbs.

I've lost weight on my current brand of met.

I don't think your doc should be going by what you fasting glucose is but rather what your fasting isulin is. Everytime I have gotten my glucose checked, it has been normal but when I finally got my insulin checked, it was extrememly high. I am on 1500mg of fortamet (extended release) daily. Sometimes I know my sugar level gets too low, I am guilty of not eating enough sometimes, if I start to feel dizzy, etc.. I have a piece of fruit or candy and then I eat a meal if possible.

ok, I take that back...

After thinking about it for a few mins, I remember my insulin was only slightly elevated with my first fasting insulin. It was during a 4hr glucose tolerance test, that I was also getting insulin levels drawn, that we finally saw the huge spike.

Have you done the GTT? My GP doc always refused to take the insulin also so he kept telling me my dx of PCOS was wrong cause of not enough symptoms, etc.. My current RE finally dx'd me definite pcos and IR.
