Hi Kate, weight you carry around your thighs and bottom is considered normal for (a lot of) women I believe. This creates the pear shape that is thought to be healthier than the apple shape where you carry your fat around your stomach. If you want to lose fat, the best way to do this is by exercising, not dieting. By dieting you may lose weight but that doesn't necessarily has to be fat, and that's what you want to get rid of!

Hiya, anyone know what is considered a normal percentage of visceral fat? I can't seem to find any info on that. Anyway, I stepped up some advanced scale at my gym and my instructor told me my vfp is 3% (or maybe it's not percentage but kilo's, he didn't draw a % sign). He claims that's below average, but he also thinks my bfp is normal which on his scale was 25,9! On my home scale it says 23,8 but I guess mine isn't as accurate. It was quite a shocking experience, but it makes sense. Now I have hope that I will definitely relieve my symptoms somewhat if I can bring my bfp down to 22! Oh, but one good thing though, he said my muscle mass is 32% and that is suppossed to be a little above average.

I have always been considered thin (5'4", 120) but I never felt comfortable wearing a two piece bathing suit, even when I was down to 115. I carry all my fat in my tummy. Even when I was the fittest I have every been I could not get my tummy toned. This explains a lot.
Curious. So does your PCOS weight appear to look like a little bit of padding or fat or pg tummy? Please excuse the wording. I'm asking since I have always been thin and active with a very good bmi (excluding previous pregnancies) until my all these symptoms started. My weight gain has been a consistant 1 to 1.5 lb/week and looks just like my former pg stomachs, hips, tushy, and thighs.

I am 5'3" and 112lbs. I consider my build athletic. No boobs. 32-27-36 which is sort of an hourglass (I work for it). My waist is just under my rib cage, below that is stubborn belly that is always there, even when I was 105 lbs it was soft in my underbelly. No amount of exercise and diet has been able to remove the pooch.
The other problem I have is that my belly extends throught the day. I wake up decent but by the end of the day it is stretched out like I am pregnant and it is hard. Sucks becuase I have a decent figure that I work hard at but I could only wear a slinky dress at about 6am not in the evening when it is more appropriate.
If fat is on my organs it seems like it must be my intestines or uterous!
I am in the normal range for BMI. Does anyone know how I can check on my intra-abdominal visceral and preperitoneal fat? Will the Ob/Gyn perform this ultraound?
You sound so much like me! I've got a normal BMI but I struggle with belly fat that makes me feel like I'm 3 months pregnant. Have you found anything that works for you?
BTW I was skinny, hourglass shape, so I had some curves..
Any of you have to wear maternity clothes due to how the weight gain is put on your body? I can't stand anything on my waist anymore --- a discomfort pain, so it's either bellow or above belly. And trust me, above belly is not attractive -- at least not on me.
im very thin, 97pounds, 5'2", but my tummy's fat! lyk it gets noticed! does that mean im goin 2 be obese in a year or two?
No!
Gaining weight is a choice - even for pcos girls I believe. Yes we have it much harder so you just have to be that much more careful. When I found out I had pcos nearly a decade ago I was frightened (and I still sometimes am) that one day I will explode with weight but it hasn't happened and I am 32 now, in fact I weigh less than I did at age 20.
I weight myself every single morning and constantly battle a big appetite. I weight 112 and if I get on the scale one day and weight 113 then that day I totally cut back eating to get back to 112. I also run and walk. I eat very little carbs and sugar and do not eat many calories. I cannot eat like other people and I have accepted that. Heck it is sort of feminine to barely eat. You have to eat to get fat. Even if you have pcos, if you just eat salad and fish you won't get fat. Read the book PCOS and Infertility it has great info in there on pcos and diet lifestyle.
PCOS is a warning sign that you cannot eat whatever you want without consequences. PCOS is not a life sentance of obesity.
I was recently "diagnosed" with PCOS based on follicles on U/S and testosterone levels by a new RE, after my PCP told me that I probably didn't have it. My symptoms are cystic acne, male pattern hair thinning, irregular menses, but no hirsutism.
I don't think the abdominal/visceral fat description fits me either... I'm ~5'7", 120# and 34-26-37. BMI 19 and body fat ~26%. I don't exercise much.
Either I don't have PCOS, or these PCOS body stereotypes are not always correct.
Hi, all. Appearently since I have hypoecheoic areas on both of the masses on my ovaries, I can't have PCOS. So at least I can have PCOS ruled out on a techincal medical reason/proof.
I have told a friend about your site. She has had a lot of cysts in her life.
I have a cycle 28-35 day and back to green weight. Still need to loose 9 pounds. I believe it. I always showed a little sign, my waist, even when 24 inch, I had this small fat/bloated circle in the middle.
