Fat Girl Fat Girl
Go ahead.
Smile your polite smiles and
exchange your knowing looks.
I can’t see you
I’m just a fat girl.
I don’t have any feeelings, right?
I don’t need to be loved or accepted or needed.
I’m just a fat girl.
I am
your mother
your grandmother
your aunt
Maybe even
Someday
(God Forbid)
you.
I am Bright
I am Smart
I am Funny
I am Invisible
I’m just a fat girl.
Tell me your troubles.
Show me your flabby arms,
your not quite flat stomach,
your less than toothpick thighs
Then lie
and tell me I’m pretty
Stocky
Chunky
Chubby
Voluptous
Heavy
Obese
Disfigured
Horrifying
But not pretty.
And it doesn’t matter.
I don’t know.
And I will float
through this life
and watch.
It’s ok.
I don’t really want to come
to your parties
your hikes
your dances.
I like to watch;
I like to watch the real people,
I don’t really want to be one
After all
I’m just a fat girl.
