i'm in the process of being diagnosed with pcos. But I'm so very very very tired. Is the a symptom or not. Most of the pieces fit but the complete exhaustion does'nt appear on the symptons list. For the past few years I've been gaing the weight in 2 years about 100 pounds. My doctor put me on glucophage 1000 mg in morn and night wellbutrin in the morning and celexa at night. I lost 30 some pounds from may to july. Then bottomed out. I haven't gained back any either. My blood sugar is about 180 but lately spiking to 240 on some days. My problem is I'm not a complete junk food junkie but I don't like veg or fruits. Just the common ones. Any ways of sneeking them in?
I've seen fatigue on many PCOS symptoms lists, mostly on lists that deal with Insulin Resistance, however.
Low energy can stem from two things: Depression, which is definitely a symptom of PCOS, and Metabolism disorders, which Insulin Resistance (IR) is. As you are talking about weight and blood sugar, I think insulin is definitely a factor for you.
You're checking your blood sugar. Does that mean you're diabetic? If you haven't been diagnosed, I think you should see a doctor about your blood sugar levels. Normal blood sugar hovers around 100. 180 is high for someone who is not diabetic and 240 is cause for great concern.
Oh, I just noticed that you are on 3 different meds. Sometimes that's not a good idea. Not everyone can tolerate so many meds. That alone can cause fatigue.
Now, being insulin resistant, you have to watch all carbs, not just refined sugars or pastas and stuff like that. Fruits also are a problem. For a really good explanation of how all this works, read The Insulin-Resistance Diet (you'll see a link in my sig). It explains things really well, and in laymen's terms.
Try working more protein into your diet to counter the carbs. The IR Diet suggests:
--Never eat carbs without also eating protein
--For every 15g carbs eat at least 7g protein
--Never eat more than 35g carbs in a sitting
--After eating carbs, don't eat any more carbs for at least 2 hours
The diet also says:
--Drink lots of water (8 8-oz glasses a day plus another 8-oz for every 25lbs your are overweight)
--Get lots of fiber (eat a veggie with every meal)
I've also read that plain old cinnamon brings down blood sugar. You can add that do just about anything. I know my sister adds cinnamon to her lasagna, and surprizingly good. Oh, she also sneaks spinach in there. I hate cooked spinach but I love my sister's lasagna!
Well, I think that's it for me! Good luck to you!
Christa

I know what you mean about being tired!! I have started to feel more awake since starting the Met (about 6 weeks ago), and I take a multi vitamin (as well as everything else).

In any case with fatigue you should have your thyroid and adrenals checked. Ask your dr. to do a full workup and not just check TSH. You are at risk because of PCOS.

Yep...I have been sleeping 10-12 hours per night for over a year now, and dragging more and more during the day. It was not always so. I began gluc/met but it got even WORSE. Recently after discontinuing gluc and going on the IR diet things have been a little better. I still sleep alot but am more alert during the day. We'll see what happens! I have not been tested for EBV/mono yet. thyroid was normal.

CysterChrista,
I never knew that cinnamon could bring your blood sugar levels down. That is really interesting. How exactly does it work?
