I am on my second month of metformin 1500mg ER. I am fatigued all the time and I am eating so much more than I did before. Soon after I eat I am starving an hour later. And want anything sweet all the time. i have read that it does the opposite to people...give them more energy, crave less sugar and lose weight. Anyone else experience this?

Kara - why did you say this? YOu only posted the other question a few hours ago...please give the girls time to read your post - maybe people are working or not on all the time...
1) fatigue all the time
2) craving sweets like crazy & always hungry
3) diarrhea for first week only, (now opposite) this us now my third week.
4) I am actually gaining weight
5) I missed my period
What's going on with me? When I finally thought I found a medicine that could help, it ended up making me feel worse...
i'm in the same boat.
i'm STAYING hungry. any hope for a diet died a week in. i couldn't take it i was hungry nonstop and could think about something simple like a cool pop and that's all i could tihnk about until i got it. i wasn't that bad before i started taking it..
my period was VERY light almost not there last month. i'm only on 500mg a day and i've been on it since september 24.
it doesn't really matter if it's sugary or salty. i sleep nonstop. on the bright side my sex drive isn't there unless provoked.
OMG me too!! And I had doc check my b-12 level since I'm so exhausted all the time from nothing. I'm not always starving but always craving just sweets which doesn't happen to me off met. I started back on met end of July about 8 weeks on. 1500mg XR now. Hubby is wondering why there is so much candy in the house. We aren't expecting trick or treaters!!!!

I get bad cravings for sugar now which I never did before. I put this down to my body telling me that it's low on sugar. If I don't eat anything when I feel like this, I start feeling very lightheaded and dizzy. I almost threw up once while out on a hike and once I drank some juice, I was fine.
I was on a low GI diet before starting met and I never craved carbs. But now after a month of being on 2000 mg daily, I can't stop thinking about brownies and other sweets. I think that it might be because my body is still adjusting to having a lower blood sugar level and some how it is triggering a need for carbs to regulate itself.
alot of people who are on met go through this, you crave carb loaded foods because your body is adjusting to having a lower blood sugar level, I found when I went through this instead of grabbing the carton of ice cream out of the freezer if I ate an orange or grapes it helped and didnt totally destroy my diet, the carbs in fruits are also more complex so they will help maintain your sugar levels better and longer and you are more likely to feel "fuller" longer. I know its not always easy to resist the reeses peanut butter cup but you just gotta remember why you are on this drug and that it needs your help to work correctly.

So is it a temporary thing? Does it go away? If so, how long did it take for it to subside?
I just started metformin last Friday and am only on the 500mg dose right now but am going to work up to 1500mg in the next three weeks. Since I started I am hungry all the time and definitely craving sweets will the hunger/cravings go away? or will they just get worse as the dose increases?
i feel exactly the same way! the metformin almost makes my food not bother to even fill me and i seem need to eat alot more before i feel even slightly full. i also get this fatigue feeling and weakness in my legs. i have been on metformin for six months now and it has done nothing but give me terrible diahorrea and cramping and make me feel bad in general. i mhoping to come off it at my next appointment in december
