Unhappy Fatigue: Medication options to help?

I have had severe fatigue/insomnia since...well...I was born.
My Drs have ruled this and that in and out, so I'm pretty much well past the "find a cause" phase. I have been treated for most of the major known causes for the problems, and I still have issues.

I am at the point where I need to find a medication to help me feel awake during the day. I am almost positive that my insomnia is pretty much "cured" the few times in my life when I have consistent energy and am able to live a active life.

I am a bit overweight right now, but even when I was a normal/healthy weight, I've had problem. My hormones are under control, my blood (sugars, iron, and other things) are all either normal or under control. My thyroid is 100% normal.

I do have immune system issues, along with depression/anxiety, blood issues (easily get low-iron anemia, but if I keep up with the iron therapy I'm usually fine) and a some other medical problems. I've been diagnosed with CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) as well as fibromyalgia. Any pain I have with those things is actually not a problem, I only get flare-ups when under stress/depressed and that is easily prevented with my Paxil. I rarely have flare-ups anymore.

So as I said, I'm at the point where I'm am SICK AND TIRED of feeling tired 24/7. I want to be able to live...not stay home all the time because I'm too tired to do anything. Hell, taking a shower most days requires me to fight the fatigue.

Does anyone know of any medications that can help with extreme fatigue? I need to find some, make a list of them, and present the list to my various Drs and see if anyone is either willing to let me try the medications, or run some testing to include/exclude other causes for my fatigue in order to allow me to try the medications.

25 years old, and I've been tired for all 25 years. I want to be able to wake up, shower, and live!

TIA

-Renee

My thyroid is fine, hormone levels not really out of control, etc., but as I told my doc I've been tired since puberty. I never had the boiling over energy and most docs and gym teachers dismissed my lack of energy as a result of being overweight, eating bad. I've been eating very healthy for 3 years this month and I"m still tired. I've ben on Met about a year and still, I'm tired. I get my good days, but not a lot of them. No one seems to believe me. My doc said it could be that I have a sleep dissorder where I don't get to the deepest part of sleep. I went on meds for that and it helped a bit, but the effets of the meds were a bit much to me. I take them a few nights a week, but I still don't get the energy levels that I think are normal. I remember as a teen going to work and coming home and going right to bed. DH used to do the same thing as a teen. My Dad was tired pretty much everyday of his life, but he had insomnia, arthritus and sleep apnea. My brother has NO energy and never has. I wonder if it's genetic. I hope you find meds to help you!

Default I hear ya!

Hey There,

I am 25 too and have been tired most of my life.... I am overweight which I am sure doesn't help but I haven't always been, and I have always been tired.... I take naps almost everyday and can fall asleep on a dime... I have been tested for sleep apnea and it has been determined that I have mild sleep apnea but I don't that is really the cause of being tired all the time. I have been finding lately during this years allergy season that if I take a antihistamin (claritan, or reactin) it helps alot...and my energy increases.. So maybe its allergies... have you had those checked? See I am allergic to mould and grass and trees ( I think I should live in a bubble)!!! so it doesn't matter what time of the year it is allergy pills work for me. I hope you find a solution cause I would like to get some energy before I have to take care of my own children!!!!!
