I was diagnosed with PCOS last April via an ultrasound. At the time of my diagnosis, my Dr. was mainly concerned with my glucose levels which were normal at that time. However that was the only test she wanted to run. Since then, I am ALWAYS tired. I have no energy whatsoever. Everyday, I have to go home and take a nap. I can hardly function at work or at home. I never wake up and feel good. I am always feeling run down. I live on coffee which does not make any difference. I went to see my PCP last May because of my fatigue and she wanted to immediately pump me full of anti-depressants. The thing is I am not depressed. I am tired of being tired. I have been fortunate, I have gained only 15 lbs, my hair has fallen out. Which was attributed to stress when I went to the Dr. Now I know it was because of the PCOS. My mood swings are horrible. I lose my temper in an instant which does not make it easy on my husband. He doesn't know what is going on with me. The last month has been the worst ever. Sex drive: I have none probably because I don't have the energy. With all that, my question is, some PCOS websites do not list fatique as one of the symptoms. Am I crazy or what. My PCOS is the only thing I can think of causing me to feel so bad. I have an appointment tomorrow with a new Dr to discuss my fatigue and PCOS. Please help????
YES. But it can also be anemia. Or even sleep apnea which also apart PCOS. Lack of proper sleep leads to fatigue. You really need more extensive blood work. CBC, Lipid profile, Thyroid testing, Insulin (so many docs don't test for this if your glucose is fine, don't understand insulin resistance), Hormones. I am sorry to know you are so fatigued. The low sex drive, the mood swings and yes fatigue are symptoms of PCOS.
I know exactly what you are talking about and it's really hard to deal with because others don't understand or think you are lazy etc.
I found that I felt better once I stopped eating sugar, and I've drastically cut down on potatoes, white breads, white pastas etc. If I do eat something I shouldn't, I get really sleepy. It took a while, though, to get used to being off of those tasty carbs.
The best thing that's helped recently is I started getting B12 shots. I've had thyroid tests, blood tests, been checked a million times for all types of anemias, and everything is "normal." But I still drag myself out of bed every day just as tired as I was when I laid down. The B12 shots have helped more than anythign else, but I might be heading for a sleep study myself because I just don't feel like I get restful sleep even when I'm in bed for 8 or 9 hours.
I hope you find something to help! Naps never made me feel better either, but sometimes you just have to lay down before you pass out.
Thanks MustangSally82. It is really comforting to know there are others who suffer from the same symptoms are dealing with it. That is my biggest fear is that all my test will come back normal and the Dr. decides that nothing needs to be done. We will see. Thanks again for your comment.
I'm so sorry. You sound EXACTLY like me. Lastnight I felt like a coma patient while my husband tried to get me in the mood. All I could do was lay there and stare absently because I was SO TIRED and from NOTHING.
I wasn't always this way, when I started working out in January, drinking lots of water and eating fewer carbs, I felt great.
However I've kinda gotten lazy and lost track and am back to square one.
I suffed from anemia back in 2004 when I bled for 3 months straight, and was anemic for about a year afterwards, however I haven't shown to be anemic since.
We are also thinking about buying a new bed. My husband and I bought a cheap $200 bed when we first got married and it was all we could afford, and it's all we still got now. I think that's a part of my problem as well. My husband says lately I've started snoring and even talking in my sleep, so that's sleep apnea, right?
Anyway, hope you get to feeling better. Try working out, cut out caffiene and sugary drinks and drink half your weight in water. Cut out carbs when you can and it'll get better.

I have fatiuge, but it's not that bad. I cannot nap, but feel tired most of the time. My doc said I'm not anemic and that he doesn't know why I'm always tired. I'm trying to work up the nerve to ask about chronic fatigue syndrome at my next visit.
I am always tired too. I hate that my parents think I'm just lazy. I told my Dr. how tired I am. She orderd blood work but my mom lost the papers then we had do get new ones. Now my appointment for the blood work is like an extra month away. I am so sick of felling tired. Yesterday I started my period but I had been bleeding for about a month early, and because its so bad I cant go to school for the rest of the week. This is how its been since I turned 12. I am 17 now almost 18 and my mom still dose not get that I'm not faking.
