Default Fatty Liver - anyone have??

Saw specialist today for elevated liver enzymes. Family Dr. took me off Glucophage in Oct, due to elevated liver enzymes and sent me to this specialist to determine if it is safe for me to go back on Gluco. I am desperate to go back on the Gluco, as I was able to loose 86 lbs. while on it and since being off have gained 34 back.
See my desperation.
Specialist felt I probably have fatty liver and is ordering more blood work and ultrasound of liver and probably a liver biopsy.
Before giving me the ok to go back on Gluco. He said the fatty liver will get worse by gaining weight, so hopefully I will be able to go back on it.
Any experience or advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry you have to go through this.........my DH has had a fatty liver for years, and also the elevated enzymes. He has to be very careful of meds that effect the liver. Is that why your DR is concerned?
I hope your Dr gets this resolved for you. I wish I had advice to offer, but maybe there's a cyster out there going through this , too.

DH and my BIL have this. DH's doc told him to avoid Tylonol and fatty foods. She said it will not get better, as it is like cirrhosis from drinking alcohol. DH is on a low-fat (bad fats) diet and never takes Tylonol. HTH

i vaguely remember my mom mentioning this, but i don't remember what she said about it, other than she has it. and i believe it is a complication of her diabetes. i could ask her and get back to you.

I was diagnosed with fatty liver over a year ago. I however, am still continuing w/ my regular meds, ie, met & avandia. Both of my doc's didn't seem real concerned. Now you have me concerned. I wonder why they are doing a biopsy. Have you had a nuclear scan yet where they are able to get a clearer picture than with just an ultrasound. I don't know what to tell you. I remember at the time when I researched it a year ago it didn't seem like that big of a deal. I remember it did say weight loss would help but that you could not reverse the effects...Good luck. Let me know what other info you find out..

Take care,
HOlly

My primary doctor told me I have a fatty liver, too. He did some regualr blood work and it came back that I have high enzymes and he did some other tests for hepatitis (spelling?) and they came back negative. Then I had an ultra sound done and he just said I had a fatty liver and nothing more came of it. Good luck...

Default fatty liver

I have a fatty liver also. I am going to have a ultrasound on thursday to check it again. I have had this problem for the last three years it got better after taking milk thistle. Now it is back again and the doctor would like to check it before putting me back on medications. After taking the milk thistle for a month my labs went down to the high ends of normal, but the doctor seems to think that they will always be that way from now on because if the illness that I suffer three years ago. I got sepsis and she says that they will always be out of range, but they should not continue to go up. Just stay in the range that they are in now. This will be my norms from now on.
