hi, i just wanted to share a verse i came across. for ppl from any faith that would like to share their favorite verses...or quotes, i would love to hear them.
mine is from the Holy Quran: 7:189
It is He who created you from a single person, and made his mate of a like nature, in order that he might dwell with her (in love). when they are united, she bears a light burden and carries it about (unnoticed). when she grows heavy, they both pray to their Lord (saying): "if though givest us a goodly child, we vow we shall be (ever) grateful."
i just wanted to share that with u all. it touches me because i am ttc and i think it lays out life so simply yet beautifully. id love to hear some others if anyone is interested in sharing!

Thats a beautiful verse maroon. I have a few favorites.
To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under the sun.
A time to be born and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
a time to kill and a time to heal ...
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance ...
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to lose and a time to seek;
a time to rend and a time to sew;
a time to keep silent and a time to speak;
a time to love and a time to hate;
a time for war and a time for peace.
ecclesiastes 3:1-8
This is not really a verse, it's a quote from the Dalai Lama. I love his quotes
This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.
Dalai Lama

Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself. Harvey Fierstein
loreo- thanks for sharing those are really nice. i especially like the dali lama quote..it just makes so much sense that religion is simple if u just practice a few key elements like kindness etc..and follow what u feel is right.

Those are some beautiful verses. I will definitely need to come back and quote some of my favourites, too. In my signature, I do have a quote from a spiritual song called "God is the Light" by Cat Stevens ( aka Yusuf Islam - he embraced Islam many moons ago).

I don't know how many have clicked on the prayer blinkie in my sig, but my friend, Barry, assmebled a collection of scripture verses and put them into a very beautiful video presentation. It's not just that the verses are touching, but also the way that they are put together. He has paraphrased the verses beautifully, and added the references so that they can be looked up. I encourage everyone to watch the video.
So along with that compilation of verses, I do have a couple of other personal favourites.
Isaiah 40:31
They that wait on the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Psalm 139
1 O LORD, you have searched me
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.
5 You hem me in—behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake,
I am still with you.
19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God!
Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD,
and abhor those who rise up against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

Not a verse from any scripture, as a pagan, I don't have one. But this poem by Emily Bronte, my fellow Yorkshirewoman, has always said all I believe, for me. Emily is one of our greatest spiritual/visionary poets, along with Blake and Shelley. This poem would have looked like blasphemy at the time it was written, and yet there was nothing new in the pantheism expressed. Although the daughter of a Church of England vicar, Emily preferred to find her god in nature. As you can see, her view of religion is pretty similar to the Dalai Lama's!
"No coward soul is mine,
No trembler in the world's storm-troubled sphere:
I see Heaven's glories shine,
And Faith shines equal, arming me from Fear.
O God within my breast,
Almighty, ever-present Deity!
Life, that in me has rest,
As I, undying Life, have power in Thee!.
Vain are the thousand creeds
That move men's hearts: unutterably vain;
Worthless as withered weeds,
Or idlest froth amid the boundless main,
To waken doubt in one
Holding so fast by Thy infinity,
So surely anchored on
The steadfast rock of Immortality.
With wide-embracing love
Thy Spirit animates eternal years,
Pervades and broods above,
Changes, sustains, dissolves, creates, and rears.
Though earth and moon were gone,
And suns and universes ceased to be,
And Thou wert left alone,
Every existence would exist in Thee.
There is not room for Death,
Nor atom that his might could render void:
Thou -Thou art Being and Breath,
And what Thou art may never be destroyed."
(Emily Jane Bronte, 1846)

I'm hoping to get up to Haworth this weekend, weather permitting! If not, we'll go soon - I have to get my fix of Bronte, every now and then! We're about 35 miles from there, but don't get up there half as often as we'd like. I first read that poem when I was 15 - am 44 now, and it's still one of my favourites. It struck me when I read the thread how interesting that the Dalai Lama's words are so similar, in sentiment, to that poem.

oh wow..whats in haworth? ive only been living here less than a year and havent had a chance to really explore..is it emily bronte's house? id love to go there! whats it like? im in leicester by the way
well im goin through a bit of a trial so i was reading and found these:
The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly. 'Tis dearness only that gives everything its value." - Thomas Paine
"I have learnt that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed." - Booker T Washington
If I could I would always work in silence and obscurity, and let my efforts be known by their results- emily bronte (pollysis- u inspired me to look up some quotes by emily bronte and i fell in love with this one. it so explains my attitude esp towards pcos and ttc)!
Quran 3:142 Do you think that you could enter paradise unless God takes cognizance of your having striven hard [in His cause], and takes cognizance of your having been patient in adversity?
Quran 11:10 And thus it is: if We let him taste ease and plenty [18] after hardship has visited him, he is sure to say, "Gone is all affliction from me!"-for, behold, he is given to vain exultation, and glories only in himself.

Another friend was a photographer and had taken most of the pics. The baby at the beginning is his son, who is now a teen. Barry's wife took some too.
And you're welcome. I like to share that with anyone who will watch. It's just so beautiful!

Maroon - Haworth is in West Yorkshire, near Keighley/Bradford. (I'm in North Yorkshire, not so far away!) At Haworth you can find the Bronte's home - now a museum - and also, more importantly, the spectacular moors that inspired Emily so much!
DH lived near Leicester when we met, 26 years ago - we used to go out to the Leicester pubs on a Saturday night and so we have many happy memories of that area. Yorkshire is beautiful, though, and not too far from you in the East Mids!
Here's the official website that will tell you a bit more about Haworth/the Parsonage:
I think they're fiming a new movie of Wuthering Heights this year with the lovely Angelina Jolie as Cathy. I can't imagine they could film the exterior shots anywhere but Haworth!
