My agency told me to go to my local police station, but when I called to see if I needed an appointment, a rather rude lady told me in no uncertain terms that they DO NOT do that and not to call back. If anyone has any experience with this in the Chicago area, I'd love to know how you managed to get them done!

We got our FBI clearances through the INS, but our local police department was able to do our Department of Justice ones (for our homestudy).
Perhaps you can call back your police department and ask for a supervisor? If anything, maybe they can direct you to the right place.

We had our fingerprints done at the County Courthouse for our State CPS clearance. We also had our fingerprints done at the INS (I believe these fingerprints are sent to the FBI for their clearance).
If I remember correctly, I think our Social worker mentioned something about State and Federal Agencies can't (or won't) share your fingerprints with each other - so I don't believe the local fingerprints can be used for FBI clearance. You may want to check with the INS or FBI or the agency on how to go about getting a copy of your FBI fingerprint clearance - I'm surprised (well not entirely) that your agency would point you in the wrong direction.
Sounds like you have to be persistant in getting to the bottom of this obstacle.

I finally broke down and called the FBI field office here in Chicago. They gave me the number of a private fingerprintting place to call. Why on earth the agency insisted it had to come from the police, I have no idea.
