Points: 17,968.84 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 17,968.84 | Fear of pregnancy (had it? got it?) Hi All,
I'm writing an article with a view to getting in published and would like some stories....
I'm writing about "fear of pregnancy" which also includes stories about having a fear of childbirth. There isn't much info out there about it and I have a small fear even though i still want to have kids.
Anyone had it or got it??
I'd love to hear from you.
Cheers,
Suzan

My cousin was talking about how wonderful she felt about going pankiller-free for all of her 4 children, but I couldn't ever do that! When my grandma had her kids, it was a common practice to basically just knock the woman out and then she wakes up and it's all over, she has a brand-new baby!
THAT is what I want!

THAT is what I want! | I wanted that, too, lol. I was pretty upset that they didn't do that anymore, lol. They gave me too much painkiller in my epi. and it was close to the same thing.

My Mood: Points: 11,711.13 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 11,711.13 | Don't be scared of pregnancy! It's so wonderful! I am P with baby #2! I was really worried about the morning sickness. I didn't want to throw up at work...my biggest fear. But my Dr. gave me some pre-natal's that completely took any morning sickness away. My delivery with DS was great. The nursing staff was great. Don't think you are less of a woman if you have a epidural. My god, you are giving birth to a child! I hate when woman say "well I didn't have a epidural" as if it makes me less of a woman. I think it makes them more like an idiot! Why have the pain if you don't have to? To be completely honest, the worst part for me was the IV they put in my hand. That hurt worse than the epidural! People have horror stories about it, but I had nothing like that. My experience was wonderful. I had GD, but it worked out. Diet and walking worked for me. I was more scared of the unknown...how's it going to hurt, etc. And my pain was no worse than bad cramps. I had people tell me to really enjoy the delivery part b/c you will go over it in your mind a million times. I thought they were crazy, but it's so true! It's a wonderful experience and it's not that bad! Honestly! I can't wait to experience it all over again. Don't listen to people with negative stories. Focus on the positive! I've found that most of the people who have negative experiences are the same people who whine when they have a hang nail. I'm sure not all experiences are great, but I think people like to add drama to their stories...Not everyone, but some. I know you hear it all the time, but once you have that little baby in your arms, it's all worth it and you forget about the other stuff. Don't be so scared of pregnancy that it is stopping you from getting pregnant. It truly is a beautiful and awesome experience! Talk to your Dr. and visit the hospitals and talk to the nurses. They will walk you through everything! I just don't want you to be afraid of pregnancy. It's so wonderful!

Same here...Im more scared of that than anything. I think for me at least, the fear of childbirth which I think is natural will be overshadowed at the happiness of FINALLY having a baby!

My Mood: Points: 11,711.13 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 11,711.13 | The pre-natals that my Dr. gave me were called Premsis. They are a prescription pre-natal, but worth every penny! I was so scared I was going to throw up at work. (I have a weird fear of throwing up infront of people) When I was P with DS I had morning sickness and after I started that pre-natal it was gone within 24 hours! Not much ms with this one. But it's all worth it!

My Mood: Points: 11,711.13 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 11,711.13 | Also, if it's any comfort, about the miscarriage. When you find out that you are pregnant you can have your Dr. do blood work and they can give you progesterone pills to take to help prevent a miscarriage. It's your body, you can demand a blood test if needed. I didn't take them with DS, but I am currently taking them b/c my levels were a little low. It's very common with PCOS.

My Mood: Points: 17,959.78 Bank: 38,465.74 Total Points: 56,425.52 | I think the thing that scares me the most is that Im pretty sure I'd have a complicated pregnancy.
I have so many issues like GERD, insulin resistance, muscle pains, food aversions that I just know being pregnant would bring on GD, horrible heartburn, lots of back pain, and the inability to eat for a long time! lol!
The fear of the unknown is kind of scary too. We don't really know what it's like until we experience it, but women have been doing it for thousands of years so it can't be that bad. The thing that scares me the most is that you can't change your mind: if you decide halfway through that you'd really not rather be pregnant anymore, there's really no going back.
My best friend had a baby last year and the first thing she said when I saw her afterwards was "It hurt." But of course, she also said it was worth it to have her daughter.
I just don't know if I'm strong enough to be miserable for 9 months and then have to take care of a precious but fragile life for the next 18+ years. It's a scary thought! I love kids, but I think for now I'll enjoy my friends' babies.

My Mood: Points: 3,257.39 Bank: 2,745.27 Total Points: 6,002.66 | Hmm. Opposite end of the spectrum here. I have a massive, incredible fear of becoming pregnant, though I've never been sexually active and that fear has nothing to do with PCOS. PCOS has actually been something of a blessing for me that way. If I were 'normal' I'd probably end up using as many methods of birth control as I could lay hands on and be insanely paranoid every month until I got my period. Now that I know it would probably be difficult to get or stay pregnant I'd probably be comfortable only using two methods, and the paranoia would be minimal.
Oddly enough, I've never felt any fear about childbirth. Possibly because I know that if I ever fall pregnant, it will never come to term one way or the other. |
