Default February 23 starts the process :)

Hubby and I will celebrate our 10th anniversary February 16, 2005, and then February 23rd, we will start the process of adoption.

We are very happy to get started! Here is our "timeline".

We are adopting through DHS in Oklahoma.

1. 2/23/2005: Home safety inspection and application drop off.

2. ?/??/????: Early to Mid March, Homestudy begins.

3. ?/??/????: Also around early to mid March, they will get our background information. It is expected to be very quick, as we have lived at our home over 5 years, and husband is retired Air Force Sergeant and has current fingerprints and security clearance, and I formally worked at a casino and had an extensive background check there.

They have said that in 90 days from February 23, 2005, we could very well be sending out completed homestudies to agencies, if we do not find a match here in OK.

Our target age is 6 to 8 years old, and we want a son. I am a registered Cherokee Indian, which they said improves my odds 10 fold, as many tribes will not allow their children to be adopted by non-Indian members, and there are lots of tribal children in OK waiting to be adopted.

So, there it is in a nutshell. We are SO excited I mean, the focus of all this trying to get pregnant is to have a family, so why NOT bypass the heartache of TTC, when you will love that adopted child as your own, anyway?

COngratulations on beginning this marvelous journey to your child. I hope that things go smoothly for you and you'll have a new little one in your life very soon!

Take care,
Lisa

PS--My DH is in the army with top secret clearance, etc...and they still make him get fingerprinted and have CORI's run, etc...I wish he could have bypassed that for timesake too! Good for your hubby!!

Talking Congrats

Good Luck with your journey.

We are also adopting through DCFS/DSS and have been on our journey on this road for 13 months now.

We have been sending out serious homestudies now for about two months. We are waiting now to hear about a sibling group in TN. We are praying and keeping all of our fingers crossed. We are trying to keep our hopes down but it is hard.

We found our local DSS/DCFS office didn't want to work with us much on adoption just foster care. So we moved on to other states about a month ago.

Again, Good Luck.

Stacy

Congrats on the start of this wonderful journey !!

I absolutely agree with the "bypass the heartache of ttc" it IS a heartache and lemme tell ya I love my son like I have never loved another person and while I cannot compare it to giving birth to a bio child I think it comes pretty close if not surpasses what I thought it was going to be like

Good luck !
