Default Fed up with s/e of meds and PCOS?

I am just getting over an illness (not sure if it was cold, flu or other) and the Met. is making me so sick. I am down to eating one meal a day and forcing that. To boot I GAINED weight. Day after tomorrow I start Spiro. I'm wondering if anyone else has taken a break from Met. because of the s/e, and if so how long did you stop it, what were the positives and negatives of the break?

I just had my GYN visit and my insulin is one under the normal limit. I don't want to get diabetes, but I'm wondering if my body just needs a break from Met. I had regular AFs before Met, so that's not a concern. The IR and it's nasty effects are my main concern.

Are you on the regular Met or Met XR? I was on the regular Met and it was awful. But the Met XR hasn't been as bad. I got off of it while TTC b/c I was sick of taking pills all the time. It totally messed up my cycles. I got back on it and I was PG within 2 months. Talk to your Dr. They have a new medicine out that doesn't have hardly any side effects. *good luck*

I stopped Met for a while. Got sick of so many pills. Didn't do me any favors. My glucose and my insulin went up, up, up. Gained back every pound I had lost(not that 16 was much). I recently tried to start again, but had such problems with aggression that I had to stop again. Now considering Byetta.
I think you should try the ER version, or ask your doc for the brand Glucophage. Mine told me that some tolerate it better than the generic.

Thanks ladies! I am gaining weight on Met. right now, which is driving me nuts especially since I'm not eating much at all and what I am is lower carb. I think I'm going to skip it for a few days and see if I feel better. If I do I might call my doc and ask for Met. XR.

I had the same problems, Jashobeam. I'm not taking it now because of it. I gained weight and felt so bloated and just totally not myself while I was on it - and I was on it for over 6 consecutive months (which proved it to my dr - he kept saying "it takes time to get used to it"). And it never helped me get my cycles back ???

I had thought of cinnamon. Mom was on it since Met has such bad s/e with her. Maybe I will pick some up this weekend.

I have been on it for maybe 2 years. I would say the last year and a few months have been the worst. The first year was the easiest and I had the least symptoms. It is helping my IR, or at least keeping it one point below high.
