Default Feedback on Doctors in NYC

I have seen 3 top docs in NYC. Mitchell Essig (NYU), Lawrence Grunfeld (Mt. Sinai) and Roger Lobo (Columbia). While Grunfeld is in a top practice I found Lobo to be the most personable, engaging, overall knowledgable and the office was just wonderful. Dr. Essig was nice but called me twice with results of blood sugar test with 2 different recommendations (foregtting he had called the first time) which was very disconcerting. Hope this helps.

Smile New York Docs

Amy:

I'm so glad you posted, and I think is a marvelous idea for all of us. Let's hear from all the NYC sisters out there, okay?
Even if you DON'T recommend your doctor, that's good information for a fellow sister to know about, so she won't go to that doctor and can save time skipping right to the next person on her list.

I don't have a regular doctor for PCO or anything else, but I have seen one woman endocrinologist (for thyroid) since I've been in NYC. Her name was Mona Shimshi and she's at Mt. Sinai. I found her to be intelligent, warm, and willing to listen to me, but still pretty conventional in her overall approach (I don't think she'd go in a lot for alternative treatments or atypical patients, etc.).

I would see her again and perhaps I will, but she only takes one insurance, Oxford's most expensive plan. My overall impression is that she was a fantastic doctor but we didn't really get into the PCO thing, so I can't truly testify to it. If you can afford her, you can go without insurance.

Right now, I'm on a Medicaid-type plan (HIP) but have no experience yet with the docs. Will update when I do.

Good luck to all sisters~
