Default Feeing Rough

hi there,

i've read up a bit about the side effects of metformin, but i am feeling so sick (pukey) and off colour and i wondered if this is normal on met.

i've been on it for a week (i took it for a couple of weeks, but came off it for a week because i was in vegas and drinking - i hope that this was the best thing to do...).

i feel like i have a temperature and i also feel a bit dizzy.

if this is normal, then that's fine. i seem to remember feeling a bit like this last time, but not so bad. i actually think i might go to bed early and try to sleep this off.

oh, that's another thing - for the past 3 nights i haven't been able to sleep properly, even with sleeping tablets - is this another side effect?

if someone can just give me some pointers, that'd be great.

is there anything i can take to stop the nausea?

Hi!

I'm sorry you're feeling this way! I felt that way for the first month; nausea and I even vomited for about a week. What helped somewhat was ginger...I boiled ginger, and had that plain. Tastes something awful, but it really helped. I also used a lot of Tums. I've done ginger ale, tums, ginger. Stopping/starting the met will probably just prolong the effects. Oh, and I also had half a glass of wine during the first two weeks...that caused severe vomiting....and that was the end of drinking for me!! Hope this helps!!

It very well could be side effects of the met!

For nausea I used gravol, and it also makes most people a little sleepy to so it's good to use at night if you are nauseated and need a little help sleeping.

Hope your feeling better soon!

thanks for both your replies :) i'll look out for the gravol - i've not heard of it before. also, ginger... yes, i've heard of that being good for nausea. i actually have some ginger and lemon teabags around here from when my mum visited. i'll give those a go.

i'm cutting right back on the alcohol - i don't want to make myself ill. i shouldn't have even started the metformin till after i got back from vegas - not sure what i was thinking there!

just out of interest, has it helped at all with your weight loss (if you've wanted to lose weight at all that is). i've been dieting for a week now and already lost about 4 lbs. but maybe that's due to the fact that i pigged myself silly at the buffets in vegas and it's superficial weight dropping off! heheh :)

i've always managed to lose weight if i've stuck to a plan, but it has always felt that bit harder than what other people report (i.e. non-pcos sufferers).
