Thread: Feel ill when you don't take your meds?

Question Feel ill when you don't take your meds?

Does anyone else feel sick if you don't take metformin/glucophage?

Last weekend I went out of town and forgot my medicine. So there were a few days where I didn't take it, but by the time I got home I was feeling nauseous and I had diarrhea (sorry if that's TMI!). Because I have to watch what I eat so much when I'm on the medicine anyway or else I feel sick, I decided to stay off my meds for another day or two until my sick feeling cleared up. I didn't want to only make it worse. Well, I've been sick all week. I didn't even go to most of my classes this week because I was so afraid of having to rush to the bathroom and make a scene - I'm not even going that often, but I always feel like I'm about to.

Anyway, I couldn't believe I felt sick all week. So today I started wondering if maybe I got sick because I quit taking the meds? Does that even happen? Has anyone else gotten sick because they've stopped? For all the bother it is to take them and feel bad, I was surprised to consider that maybe that's why. So I started taking my medicine again today, and I'm hoping I'll feel better tomorrow.

Not really but if I forget for a weekend and then start up again full strength I'll sometimes have some GI issues for a day or two.

    Hope you're feeling better!

Sometimes. When your body depends on the drug for help with the proper regulation of insulin, your body can react if you skip or stop if your sugars get out of control.

Regular dosing really helps with how I feel, so I try not to miss.

    Feel better!
