I've just discovered this site through a magazine article in national paper. I now feel hopeful and determined to get sorted. Thanks to everyone messages I have read which have given me some of my sanity back.
I am going to see my GP on Friday. My blood tests are normal (Hormone levels, thyroid, diabetes...) But I feel like I'm a hypocondriac. I was diagnosed with PCOS in June 2003 after a request to be referred to a private hospital (as was getting nowhere with local GP). Since having my son in 2004 following Laparoscpy and Clomid, I have noticed my symptoms are becomming worse. I have been back to my GP several times and nothing is done despite me drawing his attention to my PCOS and how my symptoms seem to be linked to this (Increase in facial hair, weight gain, little/no menstral cycle...)
What can I do now apart from requesting a referral back to private treatment which costs a bomb? Is there anything I can do to get out of this depressing state where I have nowhere to turn?
I have really low self-esteem at the moment, I'm not up to going to work and I am sure it is linked to the PCOS. Symptoms at the moment include - Severe headaches, extreme tiredness, flushed, dark circles around the eyes, teary, dizziness, hot flushes.. the list goes on!
Welcome Jamin. Sorry you are having such a rough time. A lot of cysters here have been thru the same thing, doctors that won't listen, or want to just put you on the pill and get you out the door. It might be to your benefit to see a reproductive endocrinologist. They have more experience treating PCOS. There is a board here with doctor recommendations on it. Good luck. Hope you find someone to treat you right.
