Default Feel yucky when I eat sugar

This is my first week on met. Throughout the week, I have noticed that if I eat sugary stuff (cheerios alone for breakfast, ice cream alone, cake alone - alone meaning without a meal), I feel really really really bad afterwards. I turn into a raving b*tch and I get all woozy.

Is this my body overreacting to the sugar because I'm on met? This has never happened to me before - and uh, I have a sweet tooth, so this certainly isn't the first time I've eaten any of the above, LOL.

Does this happen to anyone else? Does it mean I probably need to give up on sweets or at least make sure I have them with some protein? I'm not trying to lose weight, but I supposed cutting out sweets never really hurt anyone, huh?

Joy

Hi Joy!

I am sorry no one has answered you on your question. I am not sure if I even have an answer for you either, but I do have the same experience as you.

I was put on Metformin because I was Dx w/Diabetes. I am supposed to cut all sugars that aren't naturally occuring, in other words most sugary confections except my unsweetened OJ and CranApple Juice.

Ever since I started met just a few days ago, anything that contains a high amount of sugar, tastes funny to me too. I think it's the Met, but I am not to sure either. And cutting out most sugars doesn't hurt either. But I think it has something to do with the empty calories, but don't quote me on it, as that's just my experience with it.

Not much help I know, but at least you know you aren't alone in this sugar yucky feeling.

Take Care

~Corrie~

Hello Joy! I personally have not had this experience, but I do work with someone who has. Anytime she ate anything sugary, she was sick almost instantly. I can't tell you what she did to help the problem or if it ever went away because she just quit taking it. I don't think this is unusual, however. Hope everything works out!!

Hi. i am a thin cyster and am not trying to lsoe any weight but met gave me some serious s/e when I eat sweets. my first week at 500mg was fine but during the 2nd week at 1000mg, I ate an ice cream blast and had diarhea for 12 hours. it was MISERABLE! so i would be careful. for me, it's just not worth it.

I totally can't eat sweets since being on Metformin. I get severly nauseated and so sick. I'm so glad I don't have a sweet tooth, or I don't know if I could make it..lol..
