I was diagnosed with PCOS in November 2000. At that time I was seeing an endocronologist who did not want to prescribe me any bc pills. I was ok with that. He only gave me spiro for the hair on my chin and the acne. It didn't help either. I wanted a second opinion so I went to another endo. This was in March of 2003. During the 3 years from the time I was dignosed till 2003 I didn't exercise or make a big deal about my weight because I wasn't that heavy. However I was getting married in August 2003 so I wanted to look good. I weighed in at 154 lbs at the time when I went to see the new doctor. I started taking step aerobics 3x a week and watched what I ate. I didn't deprive myself and I wound losing almost 20 lbs. I was so happy and feeling so good.
Then in July right before my wedding I started taking Yasmin. Within 6 months and still going to aerobics I gained back all my weight. The doctor told me that it was impossible, but he put me on alese/aviane. That's what I'm still taking. However I got frustrated and depressed and I gained even more weight. I was still exercising, but not one pound could be lost. Now here I am 3 years married and I weigh 185 lbs. The highest I've ever weighed.
I'm currently watching my diet again. Counting calories and really being careful. My husband and I are walking every night for about 30 minutes. I am very unhappy, but I'm trying to do something about it. I'm also getting off these pills. I'm seeking advice form a gyno first and discussing with her my concerns. I am so confused. I thought you weren't supposed to gain weight. I know I slipped up and let a lot of this happen, but I was so much happier when I wasn't on them. Losing weight came easy to me and even though I didn't have a regular peroid I was still happy with that.
Has anyone else felt this way? Has anyone experienced anything like this? I hate this feeling that I've lost control of myself all because of some stupid little pill.
Not only have I felt that way, but I've also experienced the rapid weight gain like you have. I gained 30 lbs in about 4 months once while on BCP. That stuff is just killer. And my dr also told me that it was impossible and that I must have been just pigging out, but I wasn't.
I'd really go with getting off the BCP if you can - I know it's supposed to be good for preventing cysts and stuff, but that can also be prevented through diet and exercise - watching your sugar in particular.
Sounds like you're getting back to a good start. Good luck!

Are you taking any other medications for PCOS? A lot of the cysters like myself have seen weight loss success due to Metformin. Ofcourse, you have to be tested to find out if you even need it. I would ask the doc for more blood tests.
