Unhappy Feeling Down - was i wasting his time?

People here may or may not agree with me, I have Pcos but unlike a lot of people here i am not trying to conceive in actual fact i have had a sub total hysterectomy (because of awful periods, mood swings etc) but they kept my ovaries as i was only 33 when i had it ( am 40 now).
I still suffer from some of the effects of PCOS hairiness and being overweight mainly ..... so i asked my doctor to refer me so as i could try metfromin to see if that could help. Just had my second appointment with Prof Stewart at the Birminghams womans hospital (saw a woman last time)and he made me feel so worthless! I have been on the metformin for about 3 months now ( had to give it up for a while as it or something else gave me the runs) and i have not lost weight, I dont drink tea (only fruit teas) and coffee only occasionally I avoid most dairy products (they cause me problems) have no sugar on anything (eg cereals)dont really drink alcohol and use a salt replacement product.
He made me feel like i shouldnt be there told me metformin doesnt work unless you are watching what you are eating.. duh i didnt know that! and to half what i was eating. i have been watching what i was eating i maybe think i havent given metformin enough time to kick in. He says he isnt going to get me to come back to his clinic again but i can keep on the metformin as it may guard me against future type 2 diabetes (warped logic?).
Was i wrong to try and get treatment to see if it may help me? or do you think i shouldnt of bothered him?
The only effect my going to see this guy has had is to make me feel bad about myself and guilty that i was wasting his time and there were maybe more deserving cases than mine. Am i right?

Thank you for letting me vent!
Regards Jill

Hi Jill

No you didn't waste his time. Sadly it is a common approach. Although my consultant is good, my gp isn't. I have 2 children, and luckily don't suffer from infertility, but I am not trying to conceive either. I have been given Met by my consultant, and he believes this is a brilliant drug(haven't taken it yet) I have a hormone imbalance, which makes my life that little bit harder, added to the daily stresses of work, kids, husband with serious mental illness etc. I have a weight problem, dont eat a lot of sugary things, eggs don't agree with me etc. I would ask to see someone else or keep making appts to see him, but I feel that his approach isnt going to change. I went through the "looking at my diet" stage, and it made no difference.

People without this condition think I just pig out and don't admit it!
