Default Feeling frustrated & overwhelmed about doctor appointments.

I feel really overwhelmed about PCOS right now. I don't even know if I've technically been "diagnosed" really. Basically, last summer I finally lost my patience with my gyno and told her that I believed I had PCOS and gallstones (after doing research on my symptoms and what was happening to my body). I had sonograms done and it turned out I had gallstones and cysts on my ovaries.

The gallbladder problem overshadowed the cysts on my ovaries, as I was told to have surgery and remove my gallbladder.

We're still paying off that bill...

So now I am trying to focus on PCOS and getting things under control. I don't see any GPs regularly, so the only doctor I have seen in the last couple of years is my gyno, who seems pretty useless at this point.

I was recommended a certain endocrinologist, and when I phoned their office, they told me I needed to have a referral from a GP.

So now I need to go find a GP just so I can get a referral to an endo? That's going to take extra time and money.

I guess my question is... would a GP be helpful at this point? In fact...could I possibly skip the endo all together and stick with a GP for all PCOS testing/needs?

I don't know what to do or how to prioritize everything. And the fact that I depend on my father (who doesn't seem to care about any of this) for insurance adds to my stress. Part of me feels like putting this off another year until I have a job that has benefits of my own, even though I know it'd probably be smarter to do something about this now.

i think you might want to find a GP to start with and see what he/she thinks. if the PCOS is taking over your life, you may want to deal with it. if not, atleast see what the GP says and if they think it's something that could be put off, than put it off. that's what i would do.

good luck with everything.

My GYN is good and treats my PCOS. My GP never was overly concerned about PCOS or it's symptoms or effects.
