I know that for me it was all very overwhelming when I was first diagnosed especially since I was diagnosed with diabetes first then PCOS later. I cried all the way home from the dr's office thinking my life was over as I knew it, but that all changed. I got in touch with my body, and got knowledge about the diabetes, and I am happy to say that my blood sugar is under very good control 4 years almost to the day I was first diagnosed!
The key is not to let the word scare you too much, just enough to treat it seriously. Some people go overboard one way or just shrug and think it's nothing to worry about. It is important, too, to realize that it takes time, and effort. You change the way you eat, think, but not necessarily the way you live. I won't say you won't have some depressed or frustrated times, but it gets better once you see your test results improving.
It was actually a relief for me to find out that somehting was wrong with me since I had been feeling so horrible for so long. Don't let it all overwhelm you, take a nice long breath and delve into it but don't let it consume you!
And feel free to rant here any time!
