So, I just got back from my follow up appointment with my Dr. (GYN). I've had blood tests ran--slightly IR with high testosterone. And had pelvic and vaginal ultrasounds done--apparently both normal.
She referred me to another doctor (a regular MD) who started me on Metformin (500mg daily for a week; 1000mg daily after that).
Then, today she started me on BCP. Yasmin. Said that they would help with the high testosterone. Told me to start some type of low carb diet. Said she would see me in three months.
I feel slightly underwhelmed. All of this build up, all of these tests and thats it?? Hmmmm....could be that I'm just so used to having BIG DRAMAS involving doctors (a lot of my family was very sick growing up) that I'm just not used to this. Maybe that's all I need. But aren't the BCP just really covering up the problem? I mean, if I stop taking them, won't I be basically in the same position I am now?? Or maybe if I am able to lose some weight on the Met, that'll help regulate everything?? I donno..I'm not planning on TTC anytime soon....you need a guy for that.....so I guess it's not a big deal....
Wadya all think?? I'm completely new to this. I mean....maybe I should just take the BCP and see what happens?? Any opinions?? I mean she HAS addressed the issues....maybe I'm just wanting instant results......
that's kinda what my doctor did.. he put me on 10 mg of spiro and bc and said that should solve it.. but it clearly didn't... the only thing it did was make me have my periods.. i had a follow up with him like 6 months after and he goes.. "ahh i see it's working wonderfully.. you don't look as rough".. those words just stick in my head like glue..

Yaz/Yasmine is the preferred BCP for PCOS according to my OB. That's what she put me on after DD was born. Met is also becoming more and more standard for treating IR and therefore improving other PCOS symptoms.
What exactly were you hoping for?

I'm not sure.........I think I might just be overly emotional since I just finished with Provera and am waiting for (hopefully) AF to show.....god she'd better show....I'd better not be cramping like this just for the fun of it......I donno...I'm really not sure what I was hoping for. I know there is no magic pill...
For some people Met really does seem like a magic pill. I hope it will work well for you. If you aren't seeing any improvement after a couple of months, call your doctor for a reevaluation of the situation.
Good luck!
