Do any of you know if it possible to feel worse on a particular anti-depressant? My mood and overall being has been so much worse since my doc switched me from Prozac to Effexor. I do have ligitimate things in my life that I am stressed about. But I just feel so unrational so much of the time. I am overly irritable, sensitive and feel like crying all the time. Please advise. Thank you.
Yes it is possible to feel worse, especially if they just switched them, instead of having you do a gradual changeover. Every A/D works differently for everyone, so you might just have to try another. Good luck, hope things look up for you soon.

Its definately possible to feel worse, especially if you just started taking the meds. My doc told me it would take at least two weeks to feel any change at all. Also in order to switch she had me simultaneously ween off my old medicine (paxil) and onto effexor. This means I was taking a half dosage of both for a little while.
Also I've had experiences with other meds that didn't help me at all. I've never had one that worsened by symptoms, but who knows! Give it time to kick in, and if you still feel nothing go to your doctor and ask for something different
In my limited experience with AD's I would say that Yes, it is possible to feel WORSE on then off. Everyone's brain chemistry is different and you might not react as well to effexor as the next guy/girl. I tried it briefly-- from what i can remember it is fast acting and I was thrilled for the first week or so-- but after that the infamous "effexor brain zaps" set in and I started to think-- man this isn't worth it.
I would talk to your dr. and make an appt. as soon as possible to maybe switch meds, etc. I would warn you though that the withdrawal effects from effexor can by kinda crappy (again not for everybody-- but it has been reported for some) and I would suggest that you be under a dr's supervision when doing so.
Anyway.. best of luck to you!
(((hugs)))
