So my husband and I are going to try to conceive at the end of September or beginning of October. My ob/gyn has me on 1000 mg bid of Metformin. I've gotten a period every other month since he increased my dose in March. (I'm due again on Tuesday, wish me luck). He said if I'm not more regular by the time we start trying to conceive, he'll put me on Femara, rather than Clomid. Has anyone else tried this? Any advice? I just found out one of my girlfriends is about 2 weeks pregnant. A complete surprise for her. They weren't even trying yet. I'm elated for her, of course, but I'm upset for myself too. I feel like a horrible friend. The thing I want most in this world is to be a mom, but I'm afraid it will never happen, and we haven't even started trying yet! Am I setting myself up for failure here?
First of all, welcome to SC! This is a great place for support and info!
I am currently using Femara. I just took my first dose last night so I don't have a wonderful success story for you! There are plenty of women on here who have used Femara, gotten pg and delivered healthy babies. If Femara doesn't work for you, don't get discouraged! There are plenty of other options.
GL!

I am actually going to be starting my second cycle of Femara today! I was dissapointed to learn that I did not ovulate my first round. Therefore, my doctor will give me Femara this month in addition to Ovidrel(an ovulation trigger shot).
I must say that my first month on Femara was icky. I felt soooo tired all day long, had muscle aches and nausea. However, my doctor said that Clomid's side effects are worse.
Stay positive! You'll get through it. Everytime I wanted to give up and throw that bottle away, I remember that I may one be holding a beautiful little baby.
Thanks for the support ladies, I really appreciate it. I talked to my husband last night, and we're going to move up the plans. I'm going to start taking the Femara at the beginning of September. So hopefully this will work. I'm feeling much better about everything now, and much less discouraged. Please keep me updated with how things are going for you two!!! Good luck!!!
I'm a success story - i also was taking metformin (low dose - only 500mg) when I got my BFP!! I didn't experience any side effects with Femara & it worked so I definitely reccommend!!
Best of luck to you,
Annie
I'm starting my first round of femara tomorrow. I'm hoping it won't be as hard on me as clomid was! And hopefully I'll produce lovely eggs instead of cysts (like I got with clomid!).
For those of you who've taken both, what are the biggest differences? I was a screaming banshee on clomid, especially the first cycle. Physically I didn't notice too much, it was just such an insane roller coaster of wild emotions.
