Hi! I am waiting to O on my third round of Femara. Really don't know what you want to know, but I will give you the scoop that my doc gave me. First, Femara is used in women with breast cancer as it's primary use. Doctors soon found a connection between the Femara and increased fertility in women who have fertility issues. As of right now, Femara as a fertility drug is considered an off-lable use in that it is not the primary use of the drug. What Femara does for fertiltiy is that it makes the body think that it is not producing estrogen by blocking some estrogen sensors. By doing this the body produces more estrogen. This then helps to balance the LH/FSH hormones. It also help a folicle develop. This then helps the woman ovulate and thus increase her chances of getting pg. Now he also said that it interacts with the body differently than Clomid. That is why many PCOS women who are non-responsive to clomid have better luck with the femara. I do know that research has shown a higher chance of birth defects with femara when the drug is taken DURING pregnancy.....not before. But because it interacts with a different part of the body than clomid it is also considered safer and able to be taken for longer periods of time.

Personally, I like Femara. I have Oed twice and am either 1 DPO or really close to O this cycle. No pg success here yet, but I wouldn't even have had the chance with out the femara. No side effects either so I am a femara fan.

Femara alone did jack squat for me. In fact, my cycle (I also temp, even with my meds) was WORSE with Femara than with Clomid....my temps didn't rise AT ALL with Femara and they were as low as if I weren't taking anything at all. The second time I used Femara was in conjunction with Follistim and I hyperstimulated, although I think a lot of that is because my Dr. had me on too high a dose of the Follistim.

The thing that has worked the best for me is Metformin. It took a few months, but I now have regular periods (34D cycles, 13D LP, like clockwork) and my pre-O temps have skyrocketed to a "normal" range (97.1-97.5 and opposed to 96.5-96.9 pre- Metformin). Of course,my luck, DH has been deployed since my cycles have become regular, but I am staying on the Met until he gets home.
