Question Fenugreek?

Has anyone tried/is anyone trying this, or know anything about it? I'd heard this it could be useful for controlling blood sugar and that it promotes lactation (not that I need the latter, I'm just interested!)

thanks!

Thanks tan -- I was actually interested to see if anyone has tried it, or knows anyone who has? I did an internet search to that effect as well, but only came up with people trying to promote breast enlargement supplements or women who are having trouble breast-feeding... anyone of this site have any experience of it?

thx

Cato, I have not tried it but did find it mentioned in a packet of info on herbs for diabetes which I got from the Herb Research Foundation. For those that have not heard of this organization, they gather research that has been done on different herbs and you can buy packets for about $7.00. The one for diabetes contained info on research done on Fenugreek, Cinnamon, Gymnema Sylvestra and something else which now escapes me. I see the Herb Research Foundation as having good solid information. You can also get other subjects

Hi!

I haven’t tried it but my doc mentioned that a couple of his patients have had great success with it. I was going to try it as an alternative to Metformin (to lower my blood sugar) but decided to go on Avandia instead. I might add it into the mix soon though if I don’t start feeling better. It looks like it could be a good thing.

I tried it, originally to help with my supply. (I'm bfing DD.) Then, I stopped using it, and my mood swings came back, even worse. Plus, I was severely crashing after every meal that had lots of carbs. So now, I started back again. My supply's gone back up, but more importantly, my mood swings are gone. I don't crash as badly, either, after eating just carbs. (I'll still crash, but not as severely.)

HTH!

Thanks for the replues everyone -- it sounds like it's worth trying!

Does anyone know if it has any effect on AN (since that's supposed to be caused by excess insulin)? I'm not sure whether I have this or not (if I do, it's pretty mild -- it might just be the natural pattern of colour in my skin) -- but I have light and dark striations along my neck going down to my collarbone (sort of like I used my neck skin as a scrunched up washrag and then didn't wash it out thoroughly before putting it back on!).

Hi - I was just browsing through this section and found this thread. I was just wondering, Cato, what doseageof/how you take the fenugreek? I have a packet ina my cupboard and from what's been posted here am going to start taking some. A tea? An infusion? Say a teaspoon full per cup? Or a teaspoon in a pint and simmer for 10 mins? All info gratefully received.

Btw I was trawling here to find information about green tea. i have read it's beneficial, but don't know why. Again, we already have a permanent supply in the house already so it's easy for me to make some up. I have read the posting about the vitamin research into, but what else?

Thanks,
Safia

Okay - have found the 'search' feature (which I didn't know about before!! Duh! Thanks Ajani for mentioning that in the sticky!) so I have found all the info on green tea. And to think I'd stopped having it cos of the sugar I needed to add!! lol - but then they way we make it it does have loads of sugar (lose-leaf Chinese green Tea with mint and sugar = North African style tea. It's very nice and very good for the digestion).

Still would appreciate infor re. fenugreek though. thanks!
