Hi - I'm not sure where to post this so, here it is! I've been trying to do some research on fertility drugs and if there is a link to increased risk for ovarian cancer? All I really have come up with is that women with pcos *may* have an increased risk for endometrium cancer due to lack of endometrial shedding. Everything else I've come up with in regards to fertility drugs and the risk of ovarian cancer still says it is not proven for sure.
Has anyone come across any articles? My mom has ovarian cancer which increases my risk by heredity. She is currently having a recurrence after 5 years. I'm doing another round of letrozole but am almost convinced to not try anything else and move to adoption. I'm not sure I want to take the risk of increasing my chances of ovarian cancer by taking more and more fertility drugs.
I actually spoke with my Dr about this and he said that all the studies were flawed in that they did not differentiate with women who used fertility drugs but never got pg (already a higher risk ) and women who used the drugs and got pg. Also many of the studies were done pre -development of clomid and the newer fertility drugs.
There has not been any recent - after 1980 studies done regarding the fertility meds.
Just what I was told. You should talk with your Dr especially with your mother's history.

Actually there have been recent (post-clomid) studies... I don't think they know for sure what the risk is, but the possibility has not been ruled out... which is why doctors often limit how many clomid cycles you can use. i thought the limit was 6... this article says 4-6.

Thanks for your responses. My dr. is aware of my mom but also said studies are inconclusive and she doesn't think there is an increased risk.
It's a real concern for me and I just don't want to put myself in additional jeapordy for this disastrous cancer - even to have a child. Having a biological child isn't pertinent to dh or me so I think we may just quit after this next round of letrozole and go for adoption - just to be safe.
If anyone else has seen any additional info, I would love to read it! Thanks RunnerDuck for the article. It said much of the same info I had read which confirms there isn't enough known!
You're at an increased risk if you never get pg. I've only heard that the cancer risk w/ fert. drugs is unfounded... I too have an increased risk already due to family history but it didn't stop me from trying to have a baby b/c either way I already knew that I was at an increased risk whether by never getting pg or taking fert. drugs.
Good Luck!
