Default A few questions from a newbie

During my exam yesterday the doc said my uterus was enlarged and that's why it hurt like the dickens when he squeezed it. Anyone know why my uterus would be enlarged? I'm sure he'll clue me in more after the US next week. I'm just curious now.

He mentioned doing the NovaSure ablation. Anyone had this done? what kind of pain can I expect from it if I'm already bent over and crying from a simple pelvic exam? I generally have a very high tolerance to pain but the last 2 exams have sent me straight into tears.

My husband had a vas done 4 years ago so getting pregnant is not a desire for us. We have 2 wonderful monsters and I babysit so we don't need more running around.

I went of BCP in May, 06. I had a very light AF in June, July and August of this year. By light I mean 2 days with just the smelly brown stuff and some spotting. Then Sept. rolled around and I started AF and didn't stop for 7 weeks. Anyone have this happen? Is it from build up and it all comes out at once? I even passed a clot the size of my fist and took it to the ER. I was scared out of my mind with something that large and causing that much pain but the doc at the ER acted as if it was no big deal because I wasn't anemic.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi cyster,
I am not sure why your uterus is enlarged, unless you have fibroids or something similar. Some cysters have enlarged ovaries, and that can be tender during a pelvic exam too. Do you have a tipped uterus? I do, and until I started seeing my current doc, pelvic exams were a painful experience. My doc now is very good at getting in at just the right angle so it's not too bad anymore (he's had lots of practice LOL)

Ok let me ask you a TMI question: was your heavy, clotty period dark? I think you're right, it's probably that your body was trying to clean out after a few light periods. I've never had a clot quite that big, but I had some big ones before I was diagnosed w/ PCOS, and it was usually after I'd had several months of either light bleeding or no bleeding.

Hope this helps, keep us posted on how your next visit goes!
Hugs
Jenny

I have never been told about a tipped uterus or any fibroids. When I saw my old gyno on 10/31 he looked at my US results from last year and said my uterus felt about the same size so I'm guessing it hasn't gotten larger. Guess I'll have to wait until the US next week for some answers. This new doc seems very knowlegable and willing to help.

As far as clots, I've always had some large ones but never quite that large. Even when I had a period every month on BCP. I'm hoping for the ablation and that it will do al that is promised.

Forgot to mention that the bleeding was bright red most of the time during this 7 week period. I know this is probably way TMI but I actually took a really good look at the clot and it had some mucousy strings in it. I guess that's fairly normal for something that came out of the utreus?

I have a question, and I don't mean to freak you out Chas, but I was always told that REALLY large clots were a sign of possible miscarriage, is that not true? As you can tell, I don't know all that much about this particular stuff.

Chas
I'm so glad you have a doc you like and trust now. I think that makes such a huge difference.

I too have had the "stringy" stuff with my clots.

I hope your appointment is a good one, I'll be thinking of you.

Hugs
Jenny

Chas,
I am having a bad case of heavy clots this cycle.its CD10 for me today but the period is too much

This is my first menstrual period.I have been having anovulatory periods for ages.
Did an US on CD7
I was scared that I was having a miscarriage or whether taking clomid made my cysts bigger and hence the bleeding. But RE couldnt find any problems

Like Jenny said my doc thinks that my body is throwing away all the garbage from the body
MY CLOTS are the same as you described.Just too big....

Im sorry that I couldnt help you with the first qn...
Hope your next doctor visit goes fine
Take Iron supplements.RE asked to do that since Im losing a lot of Blood

Take care

Trish

If I were pregnant then I would have alot of explaining to do. LOL My husband had a vas 4 years ago and with all that goes on with my body we don't have sex very often. Yeah, the docs asked the same questions and I'm not pregnant. I'm pretty sure each one did a test.

Is that the ablation with the hot water? He was talking about the one that uses electric current for 90 seconds. To me this seems alot better. I read up on the balloon types and the wire types. They just seem to take so long. I'm pretty sure I can handle 90 seconds.
