Default Fiber rich diet interferes with ovulation?

This story was on the Chicago news today, just thought I would share:

November 3, 2009 (WLS) -- High-fiber diets are associated with lots of health benefits. But, a new study suggests, eating the recommended amount of fiber about 22 grams a day may interfere with ovulation.
The research in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition finds women on fiber rich diets have lower estrogen levels and ovulate less.
High-fiber diets are thought to decrease activity in certain intestinal enzymes, leading to less estrogen absorption . Still, researchers say the finding does not mean that eating a fiber-rich diet is a bad thing. But they question where women who are trying to get pregnant should lower their fiber intake.
More studies are needed before any recommendations can be made.

Even if further study backs this up, I wonder if it would apply to Cysters too. A fiber-rich diet is good for IR. for now, I'm sticking with my whole grains!

I am positive that all bran and whole grains got me pg ..... BUT 22 grams of fiber is ALOT for 1 day .... so maybe in the instance it is prohibitive

I remember reading a few years ago that high fiber vegetarian diets may cause ovulations due to soaking up extra estrogen. I remembering wondering if it could soak up extra testosterone, too! Dunno if it does. I'm not about to go cutting out fiber based on this. I think the alternative (more refined high gi carbs) would be just as bad for those of us with IR issues.

The study said: "Higher fiber intake, particularly from fruit, was also linked to a higher risk of having anovulatory menstrual cycles -- where the ovaries fail to release an egg."

I'm actually not surprised about this. Fiber-rich foods like fruit and whole grains contains lots of carbohydrates, which affects blood sugar, which interferes with ovulation. Eating a diet high in carbohydrates, regardless if they come from "healthy" low-GI sources, is not a good thing for some women.

"I think the alternative (more refined high gi carbs) would be just as bad for those of us with IR issues." -- High GI carbs is not the only alternative. There's also low-carb, which when done right can greatly help with insulin resistance.

LOL we cant win no matter what we do! I guess anything in excess is bad but geez...Im just going to close my eyes and do what I feel is best for me and I can tell you for the most part it does not include cutting back on fiber. I guess I will take my chances.

If it specifically links fruit as the source of high fiber...this would make theoretical sense. Why? Fruit has fructose, fructose is sugar, but is actually metabolized in our bodies differently than regular glucose. Maybe they are jumping on the fiber as being the cause instead of looking at what the physiological effect fructose has on our endocrine system....

totally makes sense, it's not really the fiber, it's the sugar from the fruit.

It wouldn't make any sense at all that intestinal fiber would prevent ovulation by soaking up extra estrogens - in fact, it would be awesome if it did that, because the estrogens we get in water and from pesticides can seriously screw with ovulation. And if your body's own estrogen was somehow reduced by fiber, then your body would respond as it does to estrogen-reducers like Clomid or Femara, and produce more follicles to boost the estrogen levels higher.

Not that this is the first time I've been disappointed by science reporting, but really? The last thing we need is to scare women away from fiber.

And who wants to BD when they're constipated?
