Default Fibroids and PCOS?

Ok, here's my story. I was was diagnosed with PCOS in 2003 because of a dark brown patch on my neck and the doc asked me a string of questions I said yes to. No tests were done. I was put on BCP and felt much better.
In 2006 I started getting pelvic pain and cramps increasing in severity and frequency. My BCP was changed to Seasonal, but that didn't help.

I changed clinics, because I was having severe pain for 6 weeks straigt almost 24/7. The new doc says it sound more like fibroids than PCOS because BCP would stop PCOS pain. Now I'm finally being sentfor a pelvic ultrasound on Monday and I have a Doc appt in 2 weeks.

I'm scared of what they're going to tell me. I might want to have children one day just not until I find a nice guy. I'm 26. I'm afraid that they'll want to do a hysterectomy.

Right now all I can do is take my Tylenol with codine and wait. Do you have any insight?

I have been diagnosed with PCOS and I have a couple of fibroids. One the size of a golf ball and one the size of a lemon. You can have PCOS and have fibroids as well. Fun eh? I have been to two doctors and the first doctor said you need a hysterectomy. I said you just want some damn retirement money so I went to see a second doctor that said a hysterecomy was ludicrious. He put me on metformin and said as long as my fibroids were not causing any issues then I wouldn't need surgery. My suggestion to you is, yes if you are having issues with your fibroids then something needs to be done and a hysterecomy is always the LAST resort. Get a second opinion, third and fourth if you have to until you find a doctor that is right for you. You need to find a doctor that you trust and is your hero. You need to get an ultrasound done by an experienced radiologist to see what exactly is growing on your plumbing. Doesn't hurt and you can see your insides which is kinda cool. Then the doctor can telll you based on size and location what kind of surgery is right for you. My doctor recommeded a myomectomy if they start troubling me. You can also look into uterine artery embolization which is a proceedure which cuts the blood supply to the fibroid and is the least invasive and leaves your uterus intact. You can also check into laproscopy surgerys which basically vacumm the buggers out. You can also see if your symptoms are the result of something else. My pain and monster bleeding was due to my messed up hormones and not my fibroids. I was VERY surprised to find this out! I had my thyroid checked and and found out I was hypothryroid wich is tied into your menstral cycle. Now my cycles are regular and no more monster bleeding. Check EVERYTHING before considering hysterectomy. You might find that you don't need that invasive of a procedure after all. There are some good doctors out there who care and aren't looking to make a quick surgery buck. Good Luck!

I had a myomectomy last year to take out 4 fibroids. One was the size of a baby's head and weighed about 4 pounds, and the other three were the sizes of lemons.

Other than giving me a pot belly and swollen ankles, they didn't bother me.

Run a search on Fibroids...you'll find some more threads.
