Fibroids...who's had them? What was the treatment?
I was told by the sono tech that I had several. Now I have to wait a week for the doctor.
So, if you had them, what were your symptoms? What was the treatment?

No more TTC. After 6 years and 4 miscarriages, I am done. Now trying to come to terms with it. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 0 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
treatment will depend on the size, location, symptoms, and wanting to maintain fertility.
I had 4...one was large (ie 4 pounds, and made me look pregnant). The only symptoms I had was a swollen lower leg. (and only one leg.)
I had them surgically removed (4 days in the hospital, and 3 weeks recovery at home, and another 4 'taking it easy'.) They wanted me to take some type of hormone to shrink them before surgery, but I said now, since it would trigger menopause-like symptoms.
Run a search...there are several cysters who've had fibroids, and various treatment methods.

In 1997, I had a fibroid that went from non-existent to soft-ball sized in a matter of a few months. Towards the end, it became excruciatingly painful (it was pressing on all sorts of things in my pelvic area that shouldn't be pressed on!). I was taking narcotic painkillers for the last 2 weeks before I had surgery to remove it.
My doc was concerned that it could be malignant (due to the speed of growth), and it was too darn big to take care of with laparoscopic surgery, so I had open abdominal surgery. This involved a vertical incision (like a classic c-section), which gives better access to the top of the uterus (where it was located), in the event that she found something worse than just a fibroid and would have to resort to more drastic surgery.
Luckily, it was just a monster fibroid. I was in the hospital 3 1/2 days, and it took me nearly 6 weeks to feel totally "normal" again.
I had laparoscopic surgery earlier this year (in conjunction with another procedure to remove a uterine septum). My doc had found another smallish fibroid at the top of my uterus during the pre-op ultrasounds, so he just ablated the blood supply to it, which caused it to shrink almost away to nothing. He also took care of some endo and some severe adhesions at the same time. Recovery was a snap.
There are a LOT more options now then there were in 1997 (a lot of docs were still recommending HYSTERECTOMY as the primary response to deal with fibroids!!!!), especially if you have smaller fibroids.

At 2 weeks, i was still hobbling around like I was 100 years old.
Oy! I remember that so clearly - standing up *straight* was such a challenge. When I went for my 1 week post op, my husband dropped me off at the door of the building and went to park the car. 1 tower of the building was professional space, the other was residential. While I was waiting for him to get back, I had a tiny, blue-haired elderly woman who lived in the residential side practically offer me her walker!!
