Question Finally!!

I have got an appointment with the only doctor in my local sugery who is willing to help and doesn't try to palm me off.

I saw her a few months ago and I haven't been able to get an appointment since, when I was last there she put me on Metformin, and said to try it and if it was still bad I should come back so we can look at other options.

I came off the met ages ago as it was making me ill. As I say I couldn't get an appointment with her and all the other GPs are male, and to be honest quite rude and insensitive.

I want to ask this doctor I'm seeing if she could put me on Provera. I have mentioned this previously to the practice nurse and she'd never heard of it, and she looked it up in her little medical book and said as it doesn't have a direct referal to PCOS she wouldn't be able to prescribe me with it.

Is there a chance that this doctor will put me on it now? I've heard of how it has brought on af for some of you and I'd really like to give it a try.

When I mentioned it to the practice nurse I said to her "I have heard about a thing called Provera, apparently it helps with pcos symptoms like periods etc and I was wondering if I could be prescribed some please?" Obviously she'd never heard of it so I think she gave me a rather strange look.

Is there any chance that this doctor will be different in that she has heard of it and that she can prescribe it to me? What can I expect if she does?

Thanks everyone xxxxx

Normally they'll just put you on it for 10 days or so (Some woman only go on for 5 days I hear.), 10mg usually, and then after you finish the pills it should bring AF. It's pretty common practice here in the States. Maybe they don't use it as much over there? I find it odd the nurse had never heard of it, maybe she didn't understand what you were asking? Or she doesn't know what she's talking about. It's generic name is: medroxyprogesterone acetate

Anways, it's just taken about a week every month or two if you don't get AF on your own.

I think though that if you're not trying to get pregnant that going on BCP is easier on your body and not so hard to remember to take. Also, it gives your body a break from trying to produce all those hormones and can reduce prevent cysts I hear. I stopped BCP because I am TTC, but once I am done TTC for a span of time I will be going right back on BCP. I loved being on BCP, didn't have to worry about when and if I was getting AF, or if I might get pg at a bad time, or bad cramps... it was nice. Something to think about.
