I have been on anti-depressants since my early 20's. I got up to 60mg of Prozac and my doc said she could not go any higher. In between that time I tried Paxil, Celexa, you name it I probably have tried it. I always just got the med script from my ob-gyn. I was on 20mg of Prozac during my pregnancy and now am on 20mg of Lexapro and it isn't doing anything. SO... finally I talked to Dh and my Mom and called a psychiatrist today. I have never been shy or silent about needing meds however this time it was hard to ask for help. Being a Mom and all you think you can DO IT ALL. I hope to get into see the doctor soon. I am tired of feeling suicidal. It feels like I have been this way off and on for a good 10 years and that is just not normal and not a way to live your life. Karen

((((((hugs))))))) I'm on 10mg Lexapro .... but I think thus far it's a good drug for me (been on it about 3 weeks) I'm seeing some good improvements after 8 or so months of trying natural things.... it was time for 'the real stuff' for me.
I think it does target more anxiety and depression .. don't know if it's strong enough for what you need or not. If you need to talk feel free to PM me.

I am just back from the doctor. It went very well. Dr. Walker is great. I have been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Here is a definition:
Generalized anxiety disorder is a relatively common anxiety problem, affecting 3-4% of the population, that turns daily life into a state of worry, anxiety, and fear. Excessive thinking and dwelling on the "what ifs" characterizes this anxiety disorder. As a result, the person feels there’s no way out of the vicious cycle of anxiety and worry, and then becomes depressed about life and the state of anxiety they find themselves in.
I have been taken off of my Lexapro 20mg and put onto Cymbalta 60mg. Cymbalta is in the same anti-depressants "family" as Effexor and Wellbutrin. Lexapro was in the SSRI "family" along with Prozac, Paxil, etc.
I have also been placed onto Trazadone 50mg to help me sleep. Dh and I are up a lot when Tiana is asleep. I should be sleeping when Tiana sleeps at night and discontinue taking naps during the day.
Overall it went very well. If I am interested in therapy the psychiatrist said that is an option however at this time I feel I am good and have no issues that need to be addressed.
Thank you for all your concern and prayers.
I have a follow-up visit on Feb 23rd.
Karen

That's great that you got everything all sorted out...
If you are really interested in seeing a therapist, then go, you never know, you may think nothing is there but after a few sessions you may find out there is... Therapists are great...
