Default Finally going for a thyroid check

So I have an appointment with Endo tomorrow. It has been so hard to find a Endo in Japan. I have been diagnosed with PCOS many years ago. I have tried spiro, metformin and dianette but nothing has helped my hair loss. I am still on Dianette (for other PCOS problems) i am guessing my thyroid is not functioning properly. I have all the symptoms of hypothyroid.

I have a couple of questions regarding medication.
I've heard if you have been put on one type of medication you cannot change it to a different type later on. Is that true? My Japanese doctor will only prescribe Japanese meds but I am planning to leave Japan sometime in the near future. It will be a problem if I cannot change meds to a western meds later on. Any thoughts please?

Also, is there anything else I need to know about thyroid medication? My J doctor speaks very little English unfortunately I will not be able to get all the info I need.

Thank you so much for your replies.
