Default Finally, officially diagnosed with PCOS

I just returned from my RE appointment as to a follow-up on my blood tests.

I can't thank the cysters on this site enough, for telling me to see an RE.

Whilst I'm disappointed I do have PCOS, at least I'm not being mucked around by an incompetent GYN who made me feel inferior & stupid for even asking for blood tests. I feel like ringing her up & telling her she's the stupid one.

All thru my teen years with acne & irregular painful heavy AF's and now the excess hair & being told its in my head, thats normal blah blah. I feel vindicated & empowered. This site taught me to stand up for myself & my health. I'm so glad I did.

So I've just had more blood taken to see if I've ovulated.

Apparently my DHEA/androgen was 8.9 (? I think) and I can't remember the numbers but my LH is greater then FSH, I have 'classic pearl necklace' of cysts on my ovaries.

Cholesteroal (Sp?) is high, so they are referring me to a dietician, but I'm not IR which is good news.

The RE has said she still really wants my septum looked at more closely as this can cause miscarriage (stupid GYN reckons it wouldn't). If the septum is a problem I can have minor surgery to fix it. So at least I'm getting somewhere.

I see her in a month, and depending on the results of the blood taken today & whether AF shows up (so I can the sonohystogram for the septum), she says she will probably put me on met.

Im also sad because it means my pregnancy was a little miracle. But I now believe (call me crazy) that my lost baby was not meant to be born but came into our lives to give us hope that I can get pregnant and that we will have babies in the future. Therefore we've decided to name our lost baby (corny I know) - Hope.

Hope is a beautiful name!

It sounds like you've found a great RE. That is really wonderful! And what a horrible GYN. I'm glad you escaped her.

Jane, I'm so glad you are finally getting answers. This site has really done wonders in improving the lives of women with pcos.

Please do have your septum looked at closer, by way of MRI or CT Scan. The surgery is minor and you'd be seen as a day patient.

With respect to IR - my bloodwork doesn't show me as IR either, but I met with an Endo who perscribed Metformin for me, and I got af six days into starting, and have had regular monthly cycles ever since. I think you should ask your RE to at least give you a trial period of 6 months on the Metformin to see if it helps. There are articles available in the sticky section of the Metformin forum that support the use of Metformin for treatment in all pcos cysters, whether their bloodwork shows them as IR or not. Some studies suggest that Metformin can help any woman with increased testosterone levels.

I'm glad you are feeling empowered, you really are your best advocate. Continue to stand up for yourself and your body.

Sometimes I think Eric wasn't meant to be born either. He served his purpose and then he got to go home. He changed me in so many ways, and I know he's always with me.
I'm glad you were diagnosed and got away from an idiot doctor. I know there are tons of women on here who were swept around until they were finally diagnosed.
I'm sorry you lost your little Hope, but I'm glad you're looking on the bright side of things. We'll get to see our little babies again one day.
Good luck with everything, and I hope you get another little baby soon.
