Default Finally.. (rambling)

Well, I had an appointment with a new doctor on Monday. Actually she was the same doc I saw for a while when I was 16. She's the one who diagnosed my hypothyroidism. Anyway, I think I'm going to stick with her. She's far more sympathetic to a lot of my concerns than the male doctors I've been going to. No offense, I know there are some really great male docs out there when it comes to PCOS and stuff. Just not here LOL.

Anyway, I actually let her tell me some stuff about PCOS even though I already knew (NONE of my other doctors could even say a thing about it) and she was right on the button. She seemed very concerned about my weight. They still had my old records from '96-'97 and I weighed around 270. Now I'm hovering around 320. She also said flat out that I was very high risk for diabetes, something none of the other doctors would really acknowledge. Said that the shakiness and hour after I ate, and the dark skin spots... pretty much everything pointed to the fact that I would be full blown diabetic if I didn't do something drastic, and do it now. I asked her something, and she told me that even if its too late and I do become diabetic, I can maintain much easier if its caught early. I always procrastinate.. and she saw that too. She pretty much told me that I had to sacrifice a few things now, and lose weight. Or I'd be sacrificing a whole lot more later, my health. So, I go back to her in 3 months for a lab. She wants to see the 3 month average of my blood sugars. Then after that, depending on the results, we'll take it from there.

I'm scared, but happy I've finally found a doc who seems willing to help me and listen. She's also the kind of person who won't take any crap from me so she'll put things in black and white so there aren't any questions. No fooling her LOL. When I saw her when I was 16, I was living with my aunt and cousin (she's also my cousin's doc). My aunt had severe diabetes, and she wasn't taking care of herself. When I was living with them I got to see every up and down. Not long after I moved out, her kidneys started to fail. She passed away in '98. The doctor knows I saw what she went through.. and she kind of eluded to that point during my appointment.

Ok.. if you got through to the end of this, thanks. And sorry LOL I know I'm rambling but I needed to.

Oh, and a question. She said that sometimes by the time doctors detect high blood sugar, the person has been diabetic for a while already, but the body covers it up. Is it true that the body can mask diabetes? I've heard it before... but I've never thought about it.
