Question finding a doctor when you are child free by choice

I just changed insurance plans and am waiting for my new provider list.

I am currently being treated by a general endocrinologist. _NONE_ of the eight reproductive endocrinologists on my former plan would even set up a consultation with me since we are not, nor will ever be TTC. They exclusively treated PCOS as a _fertility_ issue, not an _endocrinological_ issue. So, I muddled around through diabetes doctors and thyroid doctors and finally found a general endocrinologist who knew his stuff regarding PCOS and who couldn't care less that fertility was not something I was interested in except for avoiding unwanted pregnancy.

And wouldn't you know it, he doesn't accept my new insurance plan. So, I either pay to see him out of pocket (not something I want to do) or I start the process again and try and find a non fertility biased PCOS doctor on this provider list.

Has anybody else who does not want children managed to find a PCOS specialist who is okay with that? Has anybody managed to file a grievance with their insurance company over denial of service when providers on their list refuse to treat them because of their reproductive choices?

I'm hoping I can get a name from my current doctor of a new one who isn't fertility-biased, but from past experience, I'm prepared to have to really work at finding a doctor willing to treat me.

Tracy

I have finally found a general endocrinologist who deals with mostly diabetics and treats PCOS patients. So far so good (only one appointment), she's accepting of my choice--asked once if I wanted kids, I said no, hasn't brought it up again, seems educated about PCOS, and wants to work with me. I understand the frustration though, I've had too many doctors who only care about my fertility, and not my health.

Is Dr. Leah Shank or Cecilia Valdez on your plan? I go to Dr. Randall Dunn for fertility, but I asked him if he would see a friend that was not TTC. He said that he wouldn't take her because he is in such high demand for those TTC, but that the two other doctors in his office would see her because they aren't as busy.

Dr. Shank did my HSG and she was very nice and seemed like a good doctor. That is all I know about her. Dr. Valdez is in the office, but I don't know that much about her. Dr. Dunn is "the best" in Houston, so I would think that he would only work with excellent and very capable doctors.

I hope they are on your list. They are at OGA which in the Women's Hospital Complex behind the Astrodome.
