Default Finding this site made my day

Well I was diagnosed with poly cystic ovaries at 18 and then moved to a different city 3 years later. Since then to get treatment I have been run through a barrage of tests, because my word i was diagnosed with this was not enough. only to find out nothing and then be told that the tests are not accurate when pregnant or menstruating. guess when they did the test?

I have excessive body hair. I have hair on almost every part of my body and i am a brunette, therefore i spend hours a week waxing. And ore hours treating the breakouts. I recently marched into my doctors office and demanded Diane-35ed and am hoping that I shall see some results soon. Not holding my breath though.

My symptoms are these, excessive body hair, severe premenstrual syndrome, acne, prone to depression and weight gain and very irregular periods, usually very heavy.

I would appreciate ANY advice that anyone can give me!!!!!!!! It is so good to know that I am not alone!

LOL just went into chat. I was alone!

Hi butterfly. Has your doctor spoken to you about trying metformin? That really helped to keep my symptons stable (not necessarily better but they didn't get worse)and I began getting some periods. Also, I found that for the breakouts the best thing that worked for me was using products for sensitive skin rather than oily skin. I used to get terrible breakouts all over my chin. I use Clarins products for sensitive skin and now I get maybe one spot a month. I don't know if you can get Clarins in Australia though. I'm in the UK and crashing your board (sorry). Hope that helps a bit.

Hi butterfly,

Welcome to SC and I'm glad you found us!!!! This site is great for information (an overload sometimes) and support.

I had the excess hair thing and went and had laser hair removal it was the best thing I ever did. I went for about 7 sessions and OMG did I notice the difference. Its been about a year now and I just need about 2 sessions of a top up and it will be all good. Have you tried using the hair lighting cream at all? I used to use it on my mo to lighten it up seemed to do the trick.

The excess weight is a hard one I find. I know what I should be doing but get disheartened when I don't see any results. You need to find the right diet and exercise program that will suite you. You may find the PCOS diet book very usefull or even the low GI books. Just remember the exercise part is the most important.

I have irregular heavy AF as well my gyno has given me a prescription for northisterone (usually they use provera but that doesn't work for me) that brings on AF. It is important to have a couple of AF's a year as cancer is great risk for women with PCOS who do not have regular AF.

I was told by my gyno that the pill only masks the symptoms of PCOS it doesn't actualy help but saying that it will regulate your AF as long as you on it.

You also want your doc to do a complete blood work up as well as a glucose tolerence test to see if you are IR or not. Metformin has been known to help women with PCOS so that might be a good start for you.

All that I have posted has been from my experience so please just use it as advice and seek professional help. I hope my information will give you some help.

Good Luck

Lynda

Hi! I felt the same way when I first discovered this site!
Diane and Metformin are a good place to start for most cysters. You'll find this site is fantastic for gathering info on other treatments and lifestyle changes. Just keep in mind that we're here if you want to ask questions or bounce ideas off - no question is too silly or too embarrassing!

Default Thank you!

Thank you all so much for your kind words and support. i have been on dianne for just over 2 cycles now and my oil slick skin is normal and clear! woo hoo! I have had acne sine I was 12 and it is so nice to know that with a little foundation my skin looks normal now! I have been using products for sensitive skin (QV face) and I feel like a new woman. I seem to be waxing and so forth a little less and am definately going to look into laser hair removal and be done with it!
