For the past few years I have had very fine pink spots that cover the upper side of both upper arms. They are not petechia, although I do have a few of them also. They brighten in the summer when exposed to sun. Does anyone else have this problem?

I've noticed that after I started my PCOS medication, I started getting pink dots on the backs of my upper arms. I have no idea what they are...so I'm gonna ask my Endo (i have an appt this friday) to see if he can give me any clues on it and how to treat it. I'll let you know what he says.
I just got back from the doc. He was no help! He said it had nothing to do with Metformin (which was my question) and he just kinda shrugged it off. I hate when they do that. I guess I'll need to see a dermatologist to get to the bottom of that. I'm sorry I couldn't help more!
I always have these and have had them for awhile. I have been really worried because I am totally scared of skin cancer. They are all over my upper arms and look sort of like small tiny pink/red mole sort of things. I have one of these between my breasts that is a little big and puffy. I got concerned and when I went to my gynecologist and asked her about it, she said it was something called a strawberry and not to worry about it. I got no other explanation. If anyone finds out what this could possibly be, please let me know. I really worry about this alot. Thanks.
if the doctor says its a strawberry he probably means its a haemangioma, its like the pink birthmarks babies sometimes have when they are small. my aunt has a couple of those on her neck and they've never caused her any problems and she's almost 60 so if the doctor says they're ok then they probably are. as for the marks on the back of your arms i think these are fairly commoni have them sometimes but not always and as i notice they appear if i eat low carb for a while then eat normally i assume they have to do with blood sugar changes.
i have tiny pink bumps, on my upper arms and I know many other women do, as well. I don't know if it's the same, as what you're all describing, as mine don't really seem to worsen with sun exposure.
I believe it's called Acanthosis Nigricans and I did a brief yahoo search on it, and here's a small synopsis:
I know it's fairly common, especially with insulin resistance (as the article and other women can attest). I used Mary Kay's Night Emollient Cream for a few months and it helped dramatically, however it seems to have reached a standstill and isn't going away anytime soon. I have been on met for awhile, so my BS should be fine and that doesn't appear to be helping anyways, so maybe it's just something that i'll deal with.
hope this helps and have a good one!

Tlz, acanthosis is not the same thing,at least not what i have. the spots arent raised and are light pink. Acanthosis nigricans is symptom of IR.The skin is raised, velvety and kinda thickened, and discolored. I have this under my arms and back of the neck.it is a long patch at back of neck.
I have these tiny red dots on my upper arms. I've had a few for sooooo long, maybe since childhood. Lately I have more and even some on my lower arms. This site says that "Bleeding that consists of pinpoint dots of blood is called petechiae" so maybe different sites describe it differently. I haven't heard anything about light pink dots, though.
pettechia are pinpoint spots of bleeding and usually represent as red in color and look like blood under the skin. These spots I have on my arms are pinkish and not noticeably raised. definitely not petecchia(sorry about sp). I am a nurse and have seen thos frequently.Just not whats on my arms covering such a large area.
