Default The fingernail thing reminded me of this...

Did you know that most people who have PCOS have a ring finger that is significantly longer than their index finger, whereas this very rarely happens in women without PCOS (and a lot of those people are just undiagnosed). In most people, the two fingers are pretty close in length, as opposed to the marked difference most of will see on our own hands.

Don't believe me? Look at your hand. Now, look at a friends hand. Or google the word "hand" and click on the images tab (I did this to get a wider variety of hands to compare to).

(BTW, this randomly hits me and all the sudden, I will stare at peoples hands for a week or two at a time.)

Default hmmmm

Sorry, M, this isn't true for me.

But I did read something once about hormones and Morton's foot, which is where you second toe is longer than your big toe.

LOL... maybe it is just a weird coincidence that everybody I know who has PCOS has that going on with their hands.

I read it on the 'net somewhere.

Well, both my ring fingers are longer than my index fingers. But my second toe is definitely smaller (shorter) than my big toe.

It doesn't apply to me but I don't think that's a true statement either.

I have both. I've heard about the finger thing, not related to pcos, but in regards to dominate and recessive genes. I honestly can't remember which was more common.

I actually saw something on TV about this. Apparently those with longer ring fingers were exposed to more testosterone in the womb.

this is related to testosterone. i first heard about it in 'the worst case scenario handbook: guide to dating' it was in a section on how to tell if your date is really a woman, or something like that. it said that typically men have longer ring fingers than pointer fingers, where women tend to have the opposite. it turns out that women with pcos often have this, too (probably adrenal hyperplasia women, too) because of the elevated levels of testosterone, not neccesarily in the womb. this would probably explain why i have slightly longer ring fingers (more on my left hand than my right, for some reason) than pointer fingers, even though i know i'm female. the book was giving a bunch of clues to look out for in case your date is really a man in women's clothes, not just the finger thing.

funny little books, those 'worst case scenario handbooks'.
