My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for over a year. I wasted a lot of time going to doctors about my irregular periods and just being told "You're just going off of BC, it'll take time to regulate" "Give it time" "Call when you've been trying a year". Finally, 4 months ago I researched PCOS and had many of the symptoms. I convinced my doctor to test me, and I was diagnosed with PCOS. My blood work was normal, but u/s showed I had cysts on my ovaries. I've been trying to get back in to see my doc since I was diagnosed, but have had no luck. I'm seeing a new doc on monday and need some advice.
Since we have been trying over a year, I'm very anxious to get pregnant. Will most docs prescribe Clomid as soon as you've been ttc for a year? Will my husband need to be tested for fertility issues before the dr will prescribe Clomid? Anyone have any statistically data on how many cycles it usually takes for Clomid to be successful?
I'm 23 years old. I have always had irregular periods. I was on Seasonale birth control for 6 years. Blood tests show I'm not insulin resistance, but my doctor only did the fasting glucose test, not the glucose tolerance test. I'm going to ask my new doctor for the glucose tolerance test because I feel I have a lot of the symptoms of IR. I'm overweight, but have lost 25lbs in the past 6 months. Any advice on if I should ask my doc about Metformin? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
I know how u feel. My husband me tried to get pregnant for a year and my Dr said wait til Jan and u will be back to normal and I missed my periods. I went to Gyno and found out I have PCOS. The gyno put me on hormone pills for 6 months and need to diet and see what happens and then maybe be put on metformin next my gyno gonna try everything first and then try other stuff.
i know in my case ir wasnt diagnosed by glucous testing at all. i was asked to track my blood sugers for a month and after doing that we could see the issue. i was compleatly normal for fasting glucous so there are many ways to see if you have ir. i went on met and my cycle is starting to regulate from that alone. im not regular but im getting there. were not trying to concieve yet so i cant tell you on clomid but if you do have ir met can help to regulate your cycle some.

Erin--seems to be many success stories of met working on women who are not IR. and also seems like the clomid/met combo works well. my ob didn't make DH do a SA, but the RE will definatley make you. i tried one cycle with just clomid and the ob and didn't O, so i am now seeing a RE, taking met, and will start IUIs in Jan. So it depends on how aggressive you want to be as to what type of dr you should start with. i have no weight issues, so can't help you there.
good luck in your journey!
