Hey all, just wanted to talk about a few things. I have been dxed for about a year now, and one of the things that has been part of the whole time is very heavy and painful periods. Some months I am doubled up and in bed with my heating pad for several days. Hurts to do anything. According to test, I have mild insulin resistance, some extra hair on my chin, obesity, and like i mentioned above, heavy and irregular periods. They tried me on metformin, but had a very shaky reaction to it, so I opted to try to treat my insulin resistance on my own with diet. In the last year, I have lost about 25 lbs. Other than my menstrual problems, my symptoms are fairly mild.
So, my new dh and I went to the endo dr covered by his insurance. He told me that while he feels I do have pcos, he doesnt feel that my pain is part of it. He has encouraged me to go to a gyn and find out what is going on. I made the appt, for 3 weeks from now. Any opinions or comments?

Family updates on my blog!
Dx’ed PCOS 5/05 and Endo 11/06 Meds: Wellburtin, slow iron and Prenatals
I've read from some other women's posts, that they do have heavy painful periods as part of PCOS. However, some also have endometriosis (sp?). My only advice is to try not to worry about it too much....just go to the appointment, and get a treatment plan in place. There's different medications and treatment for everything out there now. Good Luck!!!

Sounds like a good Endo. Always good to find out if the pain is dues to something else. Could be endometriosis. Good luck

My periods were always the same, my endo sent me to a gyn. Who suggested that I have a mirena fitted, ive had it 2 years now and it's the best thing I could have done pain ways! I also feel that I have endometriosis, and actually reading online one of the 1st treatments for endom (in the uk anyway) is a mirean coil. pm me if you want

Hiya Jen - I have had extremely painful and heavy periods my entire life, and have never been given a diagnosis other than every woman is different... Do you take ex-strength advil for the cramping? I used to take Tylenol (tonnes of it) but it wouldn't work, and since I've taken advil, has made the world of difference... But it's def. a good idea to see an obgyn cause you just might have some underlying problems... As for your Metformin experience, I am the same, but I stuck it out with the Metformin and believe all that will pass and your body will become accustomed to it, and it's helped me lose 60 pounds the last 2 1/2 years... Good luck!!
