Points: 791.88 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 791.88 | First few days with Met.. and I feel SO BAD. Hey everyone. Im new to this. My doctrjust put me on Metformin. First few days I started taking it, the side effects were SO bad.... I had to goto the washroom every hour! I stay away from carbs, greasy and sugary foods. The side effects are sooo bad. As im typing this I feel lke I cant even concentrate. I feel so tired.. I feel like puking.. I feel so sleep I cant even keep my eyes open.. Sooo nauseous... I dont know what to do. This is my fourth day taking Metformin. And I've also started to take my Diane35 also cause after going three days without it, my face was starting to break out really bad... really bad. Anyone with similiar experiences? Should I continue on with the Metformin? I dont think I can.. Im so scared to take it now, the effect I get after are so unbearable....
Thanks in advance <3 |

I have found that it the effects are the worst first thing in the morning for me. I have began taking my evening dose shortly after dinner, instead of before bed. Taking it with a full meal seemed to help somewhat. Good luck! |

I was diagnosed with IR on July 1 and was given a prescription for 1000mg a day (2 x 500 mg pills). I started on a half pill (250mg) and have been adding 250mg every week. So far so good, no major side effects and I have been watching my diet as much as I can (sticking to the GI diet).
Good luck!!

Don't give up hope! If you still feel bad then try asking for the Metformin EX. I am hoping you feel better soon...something that has helped is also taking Tums Chewables...they taste yummy and they help with my tummy...

My Mood: Points: 1,673.98 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,673.98 | I take 2 1000mg pills a day. They are slow release and I have been doing great on them as long as I take them with a meal. Breakfast and dinner. I started out on a smaller dose months ago and had no problems. This time around because my dosage is so high I have a little more upset stomach and bathroom runs. To me it's worth it. My hubby and I are TTC our second child and it worked, but we lost the baby!
It takes time to get used to it. Hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Give yourself a few weeks to get used to the medicine. It needs time to build up into your system.
Hope you feel better!!!

I have been placed on met 2x the 1x it was HORRIBLE I was sick as a dog my Dr had me go up to 2000mg in one and a half weeks. I was very afraid to take it again so my fertility spec. had me try it again building up the doses 1 week at a time 500 in the evening week 1, then 500 evening and morning week 2, ect. Now I am on 2000mg a day with virtually no (bad) side effects only weight loss and somewhat regulated cycles. It took about 6 weeks for all of the side effects to diminish so slow down and keep it up. I found out fthat the benefits are worth it for me. |

Well I agree with the rest of the ladies....you have to start low to go up to the desired dosage. I was also very sick when I started (750 mg once a day). I used to get very very nauscious, episodes of diarrhea and vomiting also. It would be worse in the mornings I couldnt even concentrate at work because the nauscia would make me so uncomfortable. Now Im up to 750 mg 2x daily (1500 mg total) and Im doing great and its only my 2nd month. |

My Mood: Points: 1,307.92 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,307.92 | My Doc started me out at 500 mg per day taken with my evening meal. She plans to build up eventually, but said this would be fine for me for now. Call your doc and discuss scaling back.
Today was my first pill, I took it two hours ago, I've been worried about symtpoms but have the extended release, so I'm hoping it is minor. I didn't plan anything for today or tomorrow and only have the dentist on monday so I have some time to get to feeling better if it does affect me.
Hang in there! From what everyone says, once your body adjusts to it, you'll be fine.
